Dear ,

Kids have very different individual responses to drugs like Geodon. Perhaps

her doctor will reduce the dose to a more tolerable level or give her

something else or as you say just wait it out to see if the sleepiness passes.

My

daughter was very agitated by Geodon, which made her OCD worse. I learned that

she never should have been given Geodon without an SSRI first. You have

this in place already, but I had to find another doctor to get her the proper

treatment. My daughter is now on Lexapro and Seroquel--- a less agitating

medication for her than Geodon. At the right dose it is helpful, but at too

high

a dose Seroquel makes my daughter sleepy.

Good luck too you. It's a matter of trial and error--- a process which we

always have to be on top of.

HI-my daughter is also on geodon. And yes-it can really konk you out! After trial

and error,we`ve found that 20mg.in early morning is ok-but the nighttime

dose-80mg.-you usually have about two to three hours after you take it and then

you`re out-this dose is usually given by 8pm-any later and it`s hard getting up

early the next day.Good luck-Sue

Does anyone out there have experience with Geodon? We are giving it to my

oldest daughter, Hannah, to give her Zoloft a " boost. " We have been increasing

it over a period of maybe three weeks and have just about hit her dose. She

complains about being very tired and of not wanting to do anything. I am

hoping that after awhile of being on it, this will pass. I plan to call the

doctor

on Monday but wanted to see if anyone had anything to say about it. Thanks!

My son has been on Geodon for many years. Do

you have to pay a compounding pharmacist and how do

you find one?

I have always broke open the capsule and put in his

soymilk. He gets a capsule at night and half one in

AM.

He goes to bed about 7ish and is up at 6AM. I give

the PM dosage at 5PM. No side effects like the

Risperdal. That was a liquid format and we increased

it like six months later. This has not really been

increased and works fine. He turns 12 at the end of

June and hitting puberty.

Bonnie Thanks for the info. How much Geodon does take? Is it once a day or twice a day. They started Garrett on 20mg it is given around 5-6pm dinner time. The dose says after 4 days increase to 40mg....but have seen some results already......will not increase untill we feel needed. We were told by his medication doctor....not to open the capsules and put in something.....I have done this with other medications....but he didnt want me to do it with this one. I carry regular insurance on Garrett plus he has medical card....the medical card did pick up the difference the regular insurance wouldnt pay.....otherwise it would have been $170 dollars just for this perscription. But the medication doctor had to write in detail why it was needed and this was how it needed to be given. The name of the pharmacy is King Pharmacy in

Topeka Kansas the number is . They may have another pharmacy in your area or know of one close to you. Deb lietz Eskridge Kansas Bonnie Sayers wrote: My son has been on Geodon for many years. The Rx says he takes one capsule twice a day, but I

get two capsules each morning and put half in one for

then and then the other full one for PM and put a

little pinch more in the AM one.

They wanted to up it to one full capsule in AM but he

fell asleep at school and I told Dr it was not needed

at that time.

He has taken this for 4 years or more. I guess the

extra notation is because it is a compounding

pharmacy. I am in Los Angeles and was just curious

about compounding and why the need for it.

I put the capsules in bottles since my son drinks it

with soymilk or rice drink this way.

My son has a HMO Medical since we get diapers and they

would be generic otherwise so we stay on the HMO to

get Huggies goodnites each month. There is no cost

for the Geodon. It looks like it costs $437.99 on the

Rite Aid pamphlet.

The Dev Ped who did the Rx was considering abilify but

we went with Geodon instead. It looks like the 40 mg

is another color. Why is it necessary to increase the

dosage? I always read posts from parents where the

second month or so the dosage is increased. That

seems to be when problems arise and if the med is

working why bump it up?
