I believe the copyright notice is there to establish legal ownership.

The owner can still choose to allow distribution as they see fit.

I believe Humble has done something similar.

Chuck

I have a microwave fireplace in my house...The other night I relaxed

in front of the fire for the evening in ten minutes.

Nope.

Jim's book I has always been free...

His copyright for book II grants the permission explicitly - note the

last paragraph in the quote below:

" Copyright notice

The Miracle Mineral Supplement of the 21st

Century - Part I and Part 2

Author Jim V. Humble

Copyright © 2006 Jim V. Humble Quotations up to one full page

may be used when the Author is given credit. Other copies, even full

copies may be used under certain conditions. Please contact the

Author for further information.

Possible Cancellation of Copyright: In the event of the death of the

Author for any reason, or the detention of the Author for any reason

for more than 60 days during any 6 month period, or if the Author is

missing for a period of more than 60 days after being reported as

missing to a police station in the State of Nevada the Copyright 2006

by the Author, Jim V. Humble, is cancelled and this book becomes

public domain.

In addition, the Author grants permission to any person, or group, or

entity to distribute this book free or for profit throughout the world

should any of the conditions mentioned in the above paragraph

come about. "

Again, it makes no sense to forbid dissemination in the copyright, and

then grant it later buried somewhere in the text.

This is obviously just naivete of the author, but it obviously can cause

problems wrt intent...

Never mind, you were right Chuck... I remember this now back when I

first complained about his book II being given away - he does do the

same thing later in the text where he says to give it away...

Just makes no sense to me though, only leads to confusion to do it that way.
