Guest guest
Hi again, This topic frustrates me greatly. I was raised by parents who did not believe in vaccinations, and therefor, to this day, I have never received any vaccinations, and I am high functioning Aspie. My oldest son, now 18, did not receive any vaccines until I entered him in school at 11 years old. He started showing Autism symptoms from 3 mostly with eating issues, movements, fixations on things, lining up the cars instead of playing the " normal " way with them. We had NO idea about autism, so now, everything is hindsight as we look back and see the similarities between himself and his dx'd little brother. He will be getting diagnosed over the summer so that he can get whatever help he can at his age. he's almost out of school and has dealt with those issues with no help from the school at all because his dx is coming to late for him. My youngest received his first vaccines in the hospital before we brought him home. I decided that I didn't want him to go through what my oldest did when he received his vaccinations so late in his life, they made him pretty sick with flu-like symptoms and they hurt, and he remembers it all. So, I find it very hard to say vaccines are the cause of Autism. It seems heredity is the cause for us, I have other members in both sides of the family who are also autistic/aspergers, either undx'd with the same show of symptoms or they have a dx. Just wanted to share this tidbit. Ashton
Guest guest
I suspect that in time we will find that there is not one single cause for autism, and perhaps even that Aspergers Syndrome is in fact a different condition to classic autism. Treating the various conditions - allergies, ADHD, OCS, etc - that seem to go with AS undoubtedly helps, and may even lessen the actual condition, but I remain sceptical of a cure. I hope by now most of us have learnt that, just as all Aspies are not the same, so no therapy or drug seems to work well for all of us. I have no problems with people sharing what works or doesn't work for them, but do get annoyed when people start insisting that something must work, or can't possibly work, for all of us based on their own experience. I have met people who are totally committed to finding a cure for their kid. All they want is for their kid to have the best life possible. I can understand that. I have also met one or two who are pursuing a cure because there is no way they are going to accept that their kid is anything less than normal (in one case, perfect) because that would reflect badly on them. It is one of the few places where I believe someone should step in and rescue the kid - no kid deserves that sort of parent. Most of us just want to get our kids to the place where they can do what they want to do in life with the least amount of trauma. If diet works, that's good; if therapy works, that's good; if probiotics and/or vitamins work, that's good; if drugs work, well, while not ideal, that also is good. It is good when anything makes a positive difference.  Hi again, This topic frustrates me greatly. Guest guest
I don't know why the topic frustrates you. You just disagree. Imagine how frustrated the other side feels, too. I listen to all sides, and I'm generally not offended unless someone is attacking me personally, which by the way happens a lot to us that question vaccines. The world is a lot less accepting of anti-vaccines, than those of your beliefs, so again: Imagine how frustrated our side is.
