,

Menu looks fine, considering that you are running low on

groceries. :) I scrape up some odd stuff sometimes when I am due for

a trip to the store too. LOL

As far as canned soups go, I would only use them VERY occasionally

and count them as a carb. They usually have a pretty high sodium

content, so they should only be used sparingly. That said, about

once every two weeks, I cook a mess of chicken breasts in canned

cream-o'-something soup. It seems to tenderize them a LOT so I like

to fix them like that. But again, it's only every 2-3 weeks, and the

amount of soup that actually gets served with each chicken breast is

like 1/4-1/3 of a normal serving.

Sometimes even *I* forget to get enough stuff at the store, and I've

been doing this for so long that it's become old-hat for me. ;) I

usually make *at least* one trip per week to the store, usually two.

Somehow I end up going once for mostly-meats/fish/chicken and other

proteins and once for mostly veggies and fresh fruits. Not sure how

that ended up becoming a habit, but my produce all makes it home

without a bunch of smooshes and bruises this way. :)

Yes, you can throw the glutamine into your Myoplex. That's usually

how I take mine. However, glutamine tends to break down quickly in

liquids, so it's best to add it and then drink it right away. Some

people pre-mix their shakes to drink later. This is fine to do as

far as the protein goes, but the glutamine should be added right

before slugging it down.

You *can* grow your own lettuce, even though I know you were just

kidding. ;) I grew some in a large pot right outside my back door

two winters ago when I lived in a cottage (it's a winter crop, but

you can get it to grow in the spring and summer pretty well too).

Every day I just reached out the back door, picked a few leaves for

my salad and OMG that stuff is SOOOOO yummy! If you pick the leaves

every day it will keep the lettuce from bolting and it will continue

to grow and produce leaves for months!

You haven't lived until you have had homegrown veggies. You can grow

tomaters in a pot too, Roma works best. Now I have a full-on garden

plot in the house I live in, so I can plant stuff in beds, but the

pots worked great when my space was limited.

Hello,

I am a new member to this group. My name is Dee and I live in

Bakersfield. I had my DS in January, 2004. Surgery was done by Dr.

Marchesini in Curitiaba, Brazil. Insurance wouldn't pay for surgery

here, and the price difference for self pay was just to great to ignore

at the time. At the time of surgery, I weighed 305lbs, and then lost

170 lbs. Curent weight bounces between 140-145 lbs. I don't really

look at the scales anymore. My clothes fit and I generally feel

great. Just yesterday I participated in a 5K race at Cal-State

Bakersfield. Not bad for a formerly obese 59 year-old.

A year and a half after my DS, I returned to Brazil and had major

reconstructive surgery. (abdominoplasty, belt lipectomy, tummy tuck,

hernia repair, brachioplasty, breast lift and implants, and face lift -

all within 3 weeks from first surgery to last) In Brazil, they look at

the weight loss as just part of the process. Plastics are also a part

of the recovery for post bariatric patients

I am going to Dr. K to monitor my lab work. I don't feel that my PCP

really has a handle on things. His does a good job on routine things,

but won't order all the test my surgeon said I should have, and

probably is not aware of what to look for before there is a problem.

I look forward to talking to members here on the boards.

Hi, Dee and welcome to the group. It is nice to hear from you. I am

in BFL, as is Jo. There are others locally, too, and they will

probably introduce themselves to you soon.

Hi Renie,

Yup, red silk jacket, that was me. I remember you from Dr. M's party

in San Francisco. It was so good meeting all those people in person -

Tess, Konstantine, Rene. I see a bunch are meeting up with Dr. M in

DC in June. Unfortunately, we can't go. That's the weekend one of

daughters is graduating from UC , so we'll be up in Sacramento

with her.

I heard from a friend who is a revision with Dr. K that your were

posting and that hubby was considering surgery with Dr. K. Hope

everything works out for him. Good luck on the consult. Too bad you

aren't coming in to town on the 13th,. If you were, we could meet up

at the group meeting that night. I'll keep good thoughts for your

husband.

Welcome Dee...I hope you enjoy Bakersfield. I love Dr K but I think we all do

:-) maybe you could help answer a couple of questions on plastics. Does

everyone need them? how bad is the pain for the arms and tummy tuck? what is the

best thing on the thighs and butt liposuction or plastics? I guess the surgeon

would know more but I just want to get an idea so I can start saving money, I

dont know if insurance covers any of it or not, any info would be appreciated.
