Guest guest
There are no supplements that will effectively treat hypothyroidism; you have to replace the hormone you are not making. To do that you will need a Synthroid equivalent or Armour. I wouldn't wait too long; as you can do VERY serious irreversible damage to your heart if you remain untreated. > > Newbee > <hypothyroidism/message/34060;_ylc=X3oDMTJxbDVjNWs\ yBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE0NTY2NARncnBzcElkAzE3MDkyNTEwODIEbXNnSWQDMzQwNjAEc2V\ jA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE5OTA5NjIyMA--> > > > > Posted by: " Faria Crawford " TLCrawford916@... > <mailto:TLCrawford916@...?Subject=%20Re%3ANewbee> > angelwings35118 <angelwings35118> > > > Sun Dec 30, 2007 10:42 pm (PST) > > hi all, I am new to this site and new to a diagnosis of adrenal > exhaustion and hypothyroidism. Guest guest
, How do you know you are hypothyroid? If you are, Thyrosol will not help. You may need real hormones. If you are not hypoT, Thyrosol is not needed. Chuck > > > hi all, I am new to this site and new to a diagnosis of adrenal > exhaustion and hypothyroidism. Guest guest
CFS, fibro are thyroid/adrenal symptoms but your tests will usually be " normal " . In order to feel well you will need cortef 4X a day--you cannot discontinue after 6 weeks. Conventional docs just have no knowledge of adrenals. You will feel a lot better with Armour and iodine. http://www.helpmythyroid.com http://www.optimox.com look at Hormone Solutions by Thierry Hertoghe MD also books by Brownstein MD Gracia hi all, I am new to this site and new to a diagnosis of adrenal exhaustion and hypothyroidism. I have been suffering for about three years. I had a hysterectomy in 1998 and was taking synthetic hormones. I decided to try bio-identical hormones, they did a saliva test and said I has extremely low cortisol. so they put me on hydrocortizone for six weeks and adreset for the adrenal gland. (still on the hydrocotizone) I also have hypothyroidism but all they want me to take is thyrosol. I checked the ingrediants and most of them are in my multi- vitamin. So, I wanted to know if anyone knew of a natural supplement I could take that works. The only ingrediants in thyrosol that are not in my multi-vitamin are selenium and rosemary leaf. I have weight gain, fibromyalgia, cronic fatige, acid reflux, dry skin, swollen face in the mornings, cold hands and feet, low sex drive, not sleeping well, high cholesterol, fequent sinus infections, sinus allergies (for the first time in my life), pain in hands and feet, irritable bowel, fequent headace. Guest guest
I would advise to be screened for lupus aka systemic lupus erythematosus. many of your symptoms are very common in lupus patients. Guest guest
why? she will get poor treatment. In allopathic medicne every symptom is a new disease, with it's own pharmacopia. Allopaths don't use Armour, cortef, or DHEA. Gracia I would advise to be screened for lupus aka systemic lupus erythematosus. many of your symptoms are very common in lupus patients. Guest guest
no disrespect gracia but you are not giving the best advice. you are providing a disservice to people by making that kind of statement. NOT everything is related to the thyroid. she could have lupus or some other serious disease and by following ONLY your advice not get diagnosed with the proper diagnosis and then get the proper treatment! just because one is diagnosed with lupus or hypothyroidism or diabetes or cancer does mean that it CAN'T be treated with natural medicine. I have lupus and I get acupuncture and other alternative treatments to complement my allopathic treatment. Guest guest
you don't have to agree with me but that is absolutely my best advice. Guest guest
excuse me but I am a NP with advanced training in rheumatologic diseases and lupus is different with EVERY Patient ergo NO 2 LUPUS patients are alike. therefore there is NOT one treatment plan for EVERYBODY. while we do use DHEA in treatment we do not use indoral; armour or cortef unless they have a thyroid problem or adrenal issues otherwise you are giving them medicine that is not needed. making a blanket statement like that could be construed as practicing medicine without a license....... Guest guest
what are you so afraid of?? that she gets screened for lupus?? why would that matter to you whether she gets screened for sle; diabetes; yeast infections; etc I think it is ridiculous that you get so offended if someone on this list dare to suggest that a women get screened for a very common disease that is under screened for. I screen all my patients for; lupus; thyroid disease; STI's; HIV; heart disease; liver disease; vaginal infections; HPV; renal dz; Rheumatoid arthritis; blood disorders, diabetes; etc. lupus is like diabetes was 20 years ago- it is just being more recognized as a very serious disease that is under screened for. Guest guest
If your car were broken wouldn't you want to know [or have the mechanic know] what was wrong with it before beginning a repair? Even if you decided you didn't want the type of repair he recommended it would still be foolish to replace your transmission when the actual problem is the brakes. ly your recommendations all too often sound like " replace the transmission; never mind whatever is the real problem " . Guest guest
ppl with thyroid probs have more autoimmune " diseases " . ppl with lupus need DHEA, this is a big part of treatment. DHEA is an adrenal hormone, and cortef should be used with it. Iodine has been called the universal medicine and certainly everyone can benefit from it, especially sick ppl. I have learned about lupus from MD's newsletter, also http://www.drlam.com I don't expect you to understand or agree with me, but maybe this person will investigate some of these things for herself. Guest guest
here is what we know: she needs cortisol but they are only giving her six weeks worth? plus adreset (don't know what that is) WE know that DHEA should always be givien with cortef (OK I know). This woman () is getting POOR adrenal treatment and NO thyroid treatment. She needs cortef 5mg 4X a day (maybe 7.5mg), DHEA 25-50mg, Armour (enough) and Iodoral. AND sex hormones. Guest guest
I guess I need to clear up a few things. I have checked the symptoms of Lupus, I am pretty sure I dont have that. and my DHEA is the only thing withing normal limits. I do know that I have adrenal exhaustion. I produce small amounts of cortisol, but not enough. The adrenal gland affects the thyroid. I am going to an endocronologist at the end of the month. All I was looking for is what herbal supplements are good for hypothyroidism. I dont want to use any prescription meds. I am on bio-hormones, and adreset, I was just looking to add to that something to boost the thyroid. thanks to all who responded. > > > ppl with thyroid probs have more autoimmune " diseases " . ppl with lupus need DHEA, this is a big part of treatment. Guest guest
I am confused, I don't think the original post mentioned lupus at all. Its sounded to me like she needs Armour. Yes, maybe she has some symptoms of lupus, but so do most thyroid patients. I think the 1st place she should start is with her thyroid. cw -- Re: Newbee BUT THE FIRST THING TO DO IS FIND OUT IF SHE HAS LUPUS!!! Guest guest
lupus mimics over one thousand different disorders including THYROID and ADRENAL Diseases. the point is that she has or is suspected to have FMS and/or CF which are very common in LUPUS. so My suggestion was for her to get screened for lupus, too. because many of the same symptoms found in thyroid and adrenal are seen in SLE. that is a fact. the disease's nickname is the great imitator. Guest guest
not for everyone who has lupus. ergo not every lupus patient is treated with DHEA. it depends on the individual's situation. one size fits all does not have a place in medicne. Re: Re: Newbee ppl with thyroid probs have more autoimmune " diseases " . ppl with lupus need DHEA, this is a big part of treatment. DHEA is an adrenal hormone, and cortef should be used with it. Iodine has been called the universal medicine and certainly everyone can benefit from it, especially sick ppl. I have learned about lupus from MD's newsletter, also http://www.drlam.com<http://www.drlam.com/> I don't expect you to understand or agree with me, but maybe this person will investigate some of these things for herself. She can also search on http://www.iodine4health.com<http://www.iodine4health.com/> Gracia If your car were broken wouldn't you want to know [or have the mechanic know] what was wrong with it before beginning a repair? Even if you decided you didn't want the type of repair he recommended it would still be foolish to replace your transmission when the actual problem is the brakes. ly your recommendations all too often sound like " replace the transmission; never mind whatever is the real problem " . Do you really think that's always good advice? Guest guest
When I first came down with fibromyalgia, I seemed to have all the symptoms of lupus or RA. The doctor had me tested for both and when they were negative, sent me to a rheumatologist who took a history and examined me and declared me definitly having fibromyalgia. I also have hypothyroid, and have since my early twenties, maybe even before that. Roni Nancie Barnett <deifspirit@...> wrote: excuse me but I am a NP with advanced training in rheumatologic diseases and lupus is different with EVERY Patient ergo NO 2 LUPUS patients are alike. therefore there is NOT one treatment plan for EVERYBODY. while we do use DHEA in treatment we do not use indoral; armour or cortef unless they have a thyroid problem or adrenal issues otherwise you are giving them medicine that is not needed. making a blanket statement like that could be construed as practicing medicine without a license....... Newbee hi all, I am new to this site and new to a diagnosis of adrenal exhaustion and hypothyroidism. Needless to say I have been misserable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks
Guest guest
It may be that everything you have said about treating lupus is true; I don't know. That is not the point of my post. My point was that when the original suggestion was made that she find out if she in fact had lupus you replied with " why? " . So my suggestion is that the original suggestion that she find out if she did lupus before treating for it is a darn good one. Whether it's treated with allopathic medication or anything else. Your post only makes sense to me if somehow you know for sure that she has lupus; and that was not self evident. > > Re: Newbee > <hypothyroidism/message/34125;_ylc=X3oDMTJxdW8zZHM\ 1BF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE0NTY2NARncnBzcElkAzE3MDkyNTEwODIEbXNnSWQDMzQxMjUEc2V\ jA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE5OTIyODY3NA--> > > > > Posted by: " Gracia " circe@... > <mailto:circe@...?Subject=%20Re%3A%20Newbee> graciabee > <graciabee> > > > Tue Jan 1, 2008 9:03 am (PST) > > > ppl with thyroid probs have more autoimmune " diseases " . ppl with lupus > need DHEA, this is a big part of treatment. Guest guest
She didn't say she had lupus; someone else [Nancie?] suggested she be checked for lupus. See below: > I would advise to be screened for lupus aka systemic lupus > erythematosus. many of your symptoms are very common in lupus patients. Then Gracia responded with " why? " ; and suggested she just take the medication for lupus that Gracia recommends. So my point was that she should get tested for lupus before being treated for lupus. But frankly I'm getting confused now too... > Re: Newbee > <hypothyroidism/message/34140;_ylc=X3oDMTJxcnRyNmR\ sBF9TAzk3MzU5NzE1BGdycElkAzE0NTY2NARncnBzcElkAzE3MDkyNTEwODIEbXNnSWQDMzQxNDAEc2V\ jA2Rtc2cEc2xrA3Ztc2cEc3RpbWUDMTE5OTIyODY3NA--> > > > > Posted by: " Crystal " sweetnwright@... > <mailto:sweetnwright@...?Subject=%20Re%3A%20Newbee> > sweetenloe1 <sweetenloe1> > > > Tue Jan 1, 2008 2:11 pm (PST) > > I am confused, I don't think the original post mentioned lupus at all. Guest guest
Is it that you are against taking meds? I am trying to figure out why you wont try rx's. cw -- Re: Newbee I guess I need to clear up a few things. If you are truly hypoT, you need replacement hormones. We can argue about what kind is best, but the bottom line is the same. If you don't replace those hormones, you will suffer irreversible organ damage and possibly even go into myxedema coma. Many of the problems discussed on this list come after one hormone treatment or another is found to be less than completely satisfactory. However, NO hormone replacement is guaranteed to be problematic. Chuck
Guest guest
I am not against taking meds, I take plenty for all the other stuff I have going on. I have not been to the endocronologist yet, I go the 25 of Jan. I just wanted to start feeling better. The thyroid test I took at my regular doctor came back within normal limits, so they are not going to give me anything. The NP that I went to to get on bio- hormone replacement for the hysterectomy found the adrenal fatigue and gave me adreset which is a herbal formula to help support the adrenal gland. the hydrocortizone is for six weeks to try to jump start the adrenal gland. I will get tested for everything when I go to the endocronologist and hopefully they will get me straight, but that is a month away and I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I did find a vitamin supplement that has alot of selenium, iodine, b-complexes, and the A's C's and D's in it. It also has alot of other nutrients. I was just wondering from others who suffer if they had found anything that helps them to feel better. The fatigue has me at the end of my rope. I just want to feel better. thanks T > > > > > > ppl with thyroid probs have more autoimmune " diseases " . ppl with > lupus need DHEA, this is a big part of treatment.
