Guest guest
My DAN and others swear by Cod Liver Oil, but it makes my son very hyper. So, we used Mycel Vitamin A, 2 drops per day and it worked. Vitamin A is very toxic and when taken in large amounts can be poisonous, so use as directed. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Thanks! Do you mind me asking how old your son is? My son just turned 2 years old. Any idea on dosing for him? We have been using cod liver oil but only 1/2 teaspoon per day. In fact we changed brands a few weeks ago and that happened to be the time the eye glancing started up again but we also started Valtrex at that time so I am not sure what the cause is. > > > Subject: Side eye glancing, eye focus, eye crossing -- biomedical help? > To: mb12 valtrex > Date: Thursday, September 18, 2008, 7:23 AM > > > > > > > Hello All, > > My son has been doing well recently after starting Valtrex/Diflucan > but we noticed that his eye stims like side-eye glancing, eyes going > out of focus, occasional eye crossing (mainly right eye) have > increases dramatically in the past couple weeks. Guest guest
My son is 4 years old and did the same thing with Valtrex/Diflucan combo. He is off the protocol now, we did for 60 days and saw very minor results. We use a brand of Mycel Vitamin A from Wholefoods Market, Ethical Nutrients. We only use for maintenance now. I would try 1 drop or 3000 IU and see if it helps, then double and watch. You can do some quick research on it as well. Guest guest
Hi , Pharmaceutical grade cod liver oil is notoriously helpful for side-glancing and eye stims. It needs to be cod liver oil specifically and not just fish oil. This is because the vitamin A content in the CLO helps with eye rod function among other things. I am curious as to why the behaviours increased with antivirals... that's something to investigate. Guest guest
Why did you switch brands of CLO? Do you prefer the quality of the CLO you currently use? A woman from the TACA forum gave her son CLO from the grocery store and his eyes rolled back in his head. She made sure she purchased good quality CLO after that. To choose CLO, make sure it is purified by molecular distillation and is " pharmaceutical grade " , free of mercury, hormones, dioxins, PCBs, etc. Nordic Naturals is great because it is not only pure, but third party tested. Kirkman's is another trusted brand. Dr. Megson's dosage recommendations for age 2-5 years: 2500 IU Vitamin A, 250 IU Vitamin D With Kirkman's CLO, that translates to 1/2 tsp per day or about 1.5 tsp of Nordic Naturals. However, NN has more than twice the DHA and EPA which is great for the brain. Check your label to calculate the dosage. > > > > From: m_jhouston333 <m_jhouston333@> > > Subject: Side eye glancing, eye focus, eye crossing -- > biomedical help? > > To: mb12 valtrex > > Date: Thursday, September 18, 2008, 7:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello All, > > > > My son has been doing well recently after starting Valtrex/Diflucan > > but we noticed that his eye stims like side-eye glancing, eyes going > > out of focus, occasional eye crossing (mainly right eye) have > > increases dramatically in the past couple weeks. Guest guest
My son had/has the same issues with his eyes. He is also very scared of things like theatres, Chuck E Cheese, Santa Claus, etc. I heard at a TACA meeting recently that there was a girl who was deathly afraid of dragonflies and no one knew why. After HBOT, she was shocked that dragonflies were so small. She thought they were 6 feet tall! This is how " messed up " the cones/rods of the eyes are in some of our babies.. We saw no effect from 1/2 tsp. cod liver oil. I told Dr. Megson that we had increased dosage to 1 tsp. daily and she said that was fine. And for MY child (based on weight/age) recommended we up to 1 1/2 tsp. for 3 wks. to try and get rid of the visual stims and then go back to the 1 tsp. > > > > > > From: m_jhouston333 <m_jhouston333@> > > > Subject: Side eye glancing, eye focus, eye crossing -- > > biomedical help? > > > To: mb12 valtrex > > > Date: Thursday, September 18, 2008, 7:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello All, > > > > > > My son has been doing well recently after starting Valtrex/Diflucan > > > but we noticed that his eye stims like side-eye glancing, eyes going > > > out of focus, occasional eye crossing (mainly right eye) have > > > increases dramatically in the past couple weeks. Guest guest
I was told the side glancing is a way of shutting out other things in my child's field of vision. So if you turn your head one way you can't see the other stuff going on in the room as well. Kind of a sensory aversion thing I guess. I have tried vitamin A drops and saw no difference the CLO seems to have helped OR he has just grown out of it as we've done a lot of other sensory work. gfcfmom > > > > We saw no effect from 1/2 tsp. cod liver oil. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the helpful comments. We are using NN CLO but switched from children's DHA to the non-flavored kind because we were concerned with the flavoring in the children's version. But we may switch back to children's DHA. The eye stims were essentially gone for 2-3 months. We are trying hard to remember what changed about 3-4 weeks ago to cause it to come back. The only things we can remember are starting the anti-virals/fungals and switching CLO. We will start giving CLO (children's DHA version) at 1.5tsp/day and let you all know if it helps. Thanks again, > > > > Hello All, > > > > My son has been doing well recently after starting Valtrex/Diflucan > > but we noticed that his eye stims like side-eye glancing, eyes going > > out of focus, occasional eye crossing (mainly right eye) have > > increases dramatically in the past couple weeks. Guest guest
My son uses the flavored NN CLO too. The summer before last, I ran out and gave him some good quality CLO I had. He had a huge regression which lasted for months, even after I re-added the NN CLO. He's back on track now, but I'm terrified to stop this brand of CLO. Guest guest
My DAN recommends 2500 IU of vitamins A & D in CLO – so I give my 3.5 year old (47 lbs.) 2 teaspoons a day – anyone else at this level? We use Carlson’s lemon flavored CLO. We did initially have some of the side-ways glances, and sometimes he still closes one eye and squints with the other (very rarely), but the sideways glancing has disappeared. Guest guest
Each brand is different as well... I give my son between 2 tsp of Nordic Naturals CLO and achieve just over the same amount of Vitamin A achieved by a mere 1/2 tsp of Kirkman's. But I like other benefits of NN so it works out... There is a plethora of brands from which to choose... Diet also plays a role. A 1/2 tsp of Kirkman's provides 50% RDI of A, but for some kids they get almost no A from their diet, while others receive an abundance. Intestinal damage and mucous also plays a role in exactly how much of the nutrient value of any given food or supplement is actually absorbed. > > > > > > We saw no effect from 1/2 tsp. cod liver oil. Guest guest
I didn’t keep that good of track on the timing of everything; however, I do know that he used to do a lot of that glancing and my other kids thought it was really “cute” and “funny” – but I knew it wouldn’t be so cute and funny if he was still doing it when he was 10…………….It doesn’t happen anymore thankfully. Not sure what it’s contributed to, but I’m keeping at the high dose of CLO. He gets one teaspoon in the AM and one before bed. Guest guest
Hi All, Just wanted to let everyone know that my wife and I checked our old notebook (we used to keep good notes on our son's symptoms in the beginning after starting GFCF) and we went through the same thing back then. His side-eye glancing and visual stims went away about 1 month after starting CLO and the GFCF diet. Then a month later it came back. At that time we switched CLO. After going back to the original the eye stims went away. But we didn't really connect the dots back then. That was about 3 months ago. Just this morning we went back to the old CLO again and the eye stims were redced after one day. I am amazed that he is responding so much better to the one particular brand of CLO. Both are from Nordic Naturals and both have the same ingredients and the amount of Vit.A/D are the same. Only difference is one has flavoring and the other does not. So I think this confirms for us why the eye stims came back but I would love to find out what really is different between those two CLOs since the nutrition facts are the same. > > > Subject: RE: Re: Side eye glancing, eye focus, eye crossing -- > biomedical help? > To: mb12 valtrex > Date: Friday, September 19, 2008, 4:03 PM > > My DAN recommends 2500 IU of vitamins A & D in CLO - so I give my 3.5 year > old (47 lbs.) 2 teaspoons a day - anyone else at this level?
