Guest guest
,I think this is a great idea and actually one I have had myself! We've just recently received my sons DX of Aspergers and I am looking for a community like you are describing.I'd love to help -- let me know!Subject: Website for parents of children with AspergersTo: autism-aspergers Date: Sunday, March 18, 2012, 2:07 PM Hello everyone,I have been reading posts from this group for 5 years. Ever since we received my sons diagnosis. I have benefited so much from the advice and outreach that this group gives. I don't post a lot because I am usually reading my email very late at night and I figure I would sound incoherent. Anyway the last few days I have been reading the thread "Bad parenting as viewed by others and began thinking about how important connecting with other parents, even if it is through message boards and groups can be for parents of children on the spectrum. Which has led me to think about what the perfect website for parents would look like. There are lots of sites to look for information. What would be the perfect site to give parents a place to support, share, commiserate, encourage, relax and connect? This led to thinking about trying to build such a site. So, I figured if I was thinking about attempting to build such a site the best people to ask what it should include would be you guys. The first question would any of you be interested in visiting such a site and if so what would your perfect site include? Don't fear hurting my feelings by saying you would not be interested. If you truly feel that it isn't something that would be of benefit I would appreciate that feedback ! so I won't annoy anyone with more questions regarding this thought process. Guest guest
Awesome, I have already signed up for a domain name. Now I am just researching what all it should include. I know what I would like, but I want to make it inviting and accessible for other parents. Since it is a spectrum we all experience many similar issues and some that feel truly unique. We have all felt the judgement of families, friends and strangers. Granted most of that is just ignorance and we spend a lot of time and energy trying to educate those that are important in our life and trying not to let those who aren't have a lasting impact on our children and our lives. I am thinking that message boards, live chat, maybe for those who like to cook or have found recipes that assist in ASD related diet concerns would be awesome. Maybe different areas for us to share/commiserate about our children's special interests. Like for my son it is mainly music and computers. So since he is fifteen we are trying to figure out how to help him incorporate his passions into skills that will help him find his niche. Does that make sense? Anyway, I tend to sort of have a stream of conscience sort of though process so if I have gone off on a tangent let me know.
