If you were using an activated solution, it most likely caused the damage. This is an intermediate term effect. I use HDPE spray bottles and the ones that contain activated solutions last 4 - 6 months, then crack. Lesser quality plastics break down quicker. Note that this is not an issue with sodium chlorite solutions, only the acidified sodium chlorite solutions.
