Guest guest
Thanks so much for this great info!! Re: advice please - are you taking any selenium along with your iodine supplementation? I recently came across a bunch of research that it's important to keep selenium & iodine in balance or over-supplementing iodine can worsen goiters. I just posted a bunch of links on it a couple of days ago if you search. If you can't find them, let me known, I'll dig them up. Standard ranges for selenium supplementation are 200-400mcg, with most sources conservatively recommending 200mcg. Standard medicine is of the opinion that doses over 1000mcg/day may cause side effects or toxicity. My personal opinion, after researching the topic, is that supplementing with at least 400mcg/day while on high iodine supplementation seems reasonable. 400mcg is the US FDA UTL (Upper Tolerable Level). I would then drop down to 200mcg/day when on a maintenance dose. I started with 200mcg when I started Lugol's 3 weeks ago. I just increased to 400mcg yesterday. This study seems to indicate that levels of 1600-3200mcg can be well-tolerated in cancer patients over a 1-year course, with minimal side effects and toxicity, although the 3200mcg group reported more symptoms. As a caveat, I would say this level is not recommended as a daily long-term in a healthy person: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FDN/is_4_9/ai_n9480681More info on selenium: http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/minerals/selenium/http://orthomolecular.org/nutrients/micronutrients.shtml--- In iodine , " Gikas" <skg59@...> wrote:> I started Iodoral therapy 3 months ago and reported to this group the other day that my cysts on my ovaries are gone. Since the Iodoral therapy, my throat area feels more uncomfortable and it feels to me like the goiter has gotten bigger. Guest guest
Helen, I’d call the rheumy’s office. They may not want Nick to come in today. And if they do want him to come in it might be wise to have him put in an exam room upon arrival rather than sitting out in the waiting room. Hope he feels better. Guest guest
Hi Helen, If this was Rob I would keep the rheumy appt, but put a call into the ped's office - maybe leave a message that the ped will see when they are in. The ped rheumy's were ped's first - they can help in figuring out what is going on - maybe even speak with the ped directly if needed. Poor Nick, just can't get a break. Guest guest
I would take him in, too. Did he have a rapid strep test or a throat culture? I know there is a quick strep test that my daughter doesn't always test negative for that strain, but the more detailed cuture she will. Guest guest
Helen, My gut says stick with the rheumy appt. and let him sleep til then. When Drea flares she gets the severe sore throat and calls it a " spikey " sore throat...different from those that you get with colds. She often whispers because it causes pain for her to talk. She gets lots of swollen lymph nodes in her neck. She had this in May and in June with fevers of 103-104. It lasted for two days each time. Surprisingly she really didn't have any joint pain, just muscle aches. Drea had countless strep tests done due to the sore throat complaints..now when she says its a " spikey " sorethroat we kind of chalk it up to flare related and just give it a day or two. Please let us know what the rheumy has to say. Guest guest
--, Thats exactly what its like. The 24hr strep came back negative. he discribes it as 100's of knives in his throat, along with a huge lump thats stopping him from talking. He slept the morning a way. His temp is down to 100.5, he is too weak to walk so I am carrying him everywhere. he looks better now than he did 1st thing this morning, but he did yesterday too, until supper time when the high fevers started peaking again. He had dental work last Thursday, the day before remicade, I wonder if theres any corralation. He's not been right since remicade. Thanks for all the advise everyone, hes always the only one in the waiting room at the hospital and we are taken back straight away. Ill update when we get home. hugs helen and (9,systemic) - In , " sonia1md " <sonia1md@...> wrote: > > Helen, > > My gut says stick with the rheumy appt. and let him sleep til then. > When Drea flares she gets the severe sore throat and calls it > a " spikey " sore throat...different from those that you get with > colds. Guest guest
Helen, Boy that is strange..Drea had orthodontic work in May and June followed by 24-48 hours of sorethroat, high fever, swollen lymph nodes. Weird... The spikey sore throat is pretty common for Drea and is very similar to what Nick described. cindy's daughter, n also has similar symptoms. I hope by tomorrow he is doing better. Does he have any rash? sonia (drea 11 systemic jra/gerd) > > > > > > Hey everyone, > > > > > > I need some advise.. > > > > > > Nick got his remicade last Friday, and then ran a slight fever > that > > > evening. > > > > > > yesterday he woke complaining of a sore throat and a stuffy nose. > > So i > > > took him to the ped to check for strep. Guest guest
Diane, Why would you even consider surrendering your license? Aren't your NSG facilitator or lawyer giving you any guidance and support? Just because the AG wants to revoke, there is a hearing for that in which you tell your side of the story. It's NOT a "done deal". Please don't let them intimidate you like this...You gotta fight it! Lorie advice please Has anyone ever surrendered their rn license or is it better to wait until it's revoked? I just can't seem to quit getting positive etg's, even though I didn't drink. My nurse support person seems to think the board is going for revocation. I have a lawyer. Should I just give up? Thanks for your input, Diane

Guest guest
Diane---- I remember being ready to throw in the towel, not even consider Probation, & walk away from Diversion in Sept '05. My NSG leader also was beyond unsupportive. I was discouraged beyond hope & scared to death, but then my husband threw me a challenge of sorts, & my DEC suggested I "give it until Dec or until there's another +" & I found the internal strength to keep going---I've had no +'s since then. I made some changes that I told you about & it seems to have helped. I know you personally, & you don't strike me as a give up kind of gal. Please think long & hard & don't believe everything your NSG leader has to say. Use your real support system, including all of us on this site & keep my # handy. Believe me, I do understand how you are feeling/thinking right now. Don't take any permanent actions in such a vulnerable state. Like Lorie said, it's not a "done deal". Best thoughts are with you. All I see that needs to be fixed is your Estradiol now you said your on Indolplex/DIM how long have you been on it and is this the results of your labs for Estradiol on it. If so it's not working or did you ever get some morning and night time wood after you started on this. Then it stopped if this is the case you went to low so I need to know if with this test were you on the Indolplex/DIM taking one tablet a day. Also have you every tried Cialis 20mgs you would need to take it every 3 days this helps a lot my Dr. has me on this now for as long as Cialis has been on the market. I have not problems with my sex as long as I keep my Total and Free T levels up into the upper 1/3 of my labs range for a young man. And keep my Estradiol down between 10 to 30 some men do good higher. If my Estradiol was has high as yours is I would not be able to have sex even doing the Cialis. I have a low SHBG so I keep my Estradiol between 15 to 20 this is what keeps my Wood going. He didnt mind when I asked him about this before so I would ask him. Gill Hi,I've had a really hard few days, to recap I stopped my medication fora week to commence NAE and I am now up to 3 a day. However, Ijust don't seem to be getting any better apart from an improvement inmy skin after starting the T3, but this then seemed to drop off. sincegoing back on all meds I just aren't picking up. Can have maybe oneday where I think there is an improvement but then following day feelbad again. Symptoms at the moment are cramp like pains in thighs, armsfeeling weak and haevy, wobbly legs, irritable, went to visit mymother yesterday, could hardly hold a conversation together I felt sotired, I eventually came round as it was time to leave. These feelingsof tiredness seem to suddenley come over me when I think I am having agood day and the bam I'm having a bad day. Two weeks after starting T3I had an episode of palpitations during the night. I contacted endoabout this and he did'nt think it was related to T3, however I wasn'tconvinced so I started the NAE as backup, he ordered more TFT's to putmy mind at rest which were done on 12th Feb, for which I have notreceived results. Does anyone think it would be out of order if Icontact him today and as if it is possible for an increase in my dose,I don't think I can wait until the end of the month, I am going onholiday with my hubby and kids in two weeks and really hoped that bythen I would have been feeling better, it's so hard coping in theschool holidays when you feel so drained. Sheila and Gill I think youknow who my endo is Gill (thurgo lady) you see the same one as me Iwould welcome your thoughts. Guest guest
Hi Gill Thanks for your reply, I have contacted his secretary before and she is very helpful. I will maybe contact her tomorrow as I am still awaiting results of my last blood test and a blood form for my next test before I see him again. Funnily enough I have felt a little better today, so may see how I feel tomorrow as to whether I bring up the subject of increasing my dose. Thanks for your help. Love Lizzie > Hi Lizzie - Ive contacted his secretary a couple of times to ask if he will agree to up my dose - first time he was fine about this and I havent had a reply this time, as I emailed his secretary last week (though she has replied). She is very nice and helpful. If you ring the switchboard they will put you through to her, explain and she will ask him and one of them will get back to you Im sure. He didnt mind when I asked him about this before so I would ask him. > Gill
Guest guest
Hi Cec - Are you taking T4/T3 combination therapy on the recommendations of your doctor, or is this something you are doing yourself. Usually, when T3 is added to T4, it is normal to decrease the amount of T4 you are taking. How are you actually feeling? When my ex.endo decided I needed the addition of some T3, she decreased my 125 mcgs levothyroxine down to 50mcgs and added 20 mcgs T3 - this was too much for me as I had adverse reactions to the T3 on the 9th day, and I wish she had started me on 10mcgs. However, I eventually started on Armour and that was the treatment for me. I would discuss this with your doctor and ask whether you should drop your dose of levothyroxine. Doctors would tell you that you should take your medication until your blood results are within the accepted normal reference range - but I would say you should go by how you feel, and yes, I personally would increase my T3 by 10 mcgs in the same way as Armour until you start to feel hyper - and then drop back. This is how the used to treat in the good old days, before the manufacture of the blood tests. Hypo's put on weight because their metabolism is too slow and they are unable to burn off excess calories. It makes no difference what you eat it would seem, but once you get onto the correct thyroid hormone replacement, your metabolism will increase and you should be able to burn off calories again automatically. Luv - Sheila Hi I'm taking 125 levo and started taking 10mcg T3 4 weeks ago and have just upped it to 20mcg this week. do I continue to increase the t3 in the same way as armor (until I feel hyper and drop back) or is there another method. _,_._,___
