Ok, Doctors on my Email list, I have a close friend just diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and is scheduled for cytoxin chemo IV next Monday, please do you have any other suggestions? The following I assuming is from the Mayo Clinic in the attached, does anyone have any other research that might be helpful?http://www.mayoclinicproceedings.com/content/80/7/943.full.pdfWe describe a patient with a suspected myelodysplastic syndromethat developed in association with a neurologic disorderresembling subacute combined degeneration but without vitaminB12 deficiency. Ultimately, the hematologic manifestations andthe neurologic syndrome were linked to severe copper deficiency.Prompt and complete reversal of the hematologic abnormalitiesoccurred with copper replacement. Serum copper determinationshould be included in the work-up of patients with anemia andleukopenia of unclear etiology who have associated myeloneuropathy. The hematologic picture can resemble sideroblastic anemiaor myelodysplastic syndrome. Hyperzincemia can be an accompanyingabnormality even without exogenous zinc ingestion. The reason for the copper deficiency may not be evident.Mayo Clin Proc. 2005;80(7):943-946ANC
