Hi all

Im new member on this group, I really need some help as my little

lad, well he's nearly 10, hass the mind of a 4-5 year old, autistic

spectrum disorder/pervasive development disorder, as well as

deafness, learning difficulties, a few medical problems too.

Anyway as you can imagine he has many obsessions, the main one about

the london underground which of course I can handle as well door

slamming, lights being turned on and off etc. Anyway, the latest one

is fire, he is so fascinated about fire and the emergency services

and has started nearly 3 fires, these are all when I have turned my

back just for literally 1 minute, he needs constant watching, eyes in

the back of your head.

Can anyone advise me please on what to do and how to explain to him

that it is dangerous, he could hurt hisself or even kill or damage

things. I have tried explaining to him but how do you explain

something to a child who just doesnt understand and thinks its funny

and all a game.

Can anyone help please?

I would talk to my local fire dept. and let them know what's going on. Ask them if they can talk to him, give a demo, teach him fire safety... anything. I had to have a police officer talk to my son when he was taking his seat belt off and it seemed to help. Some kids just need someone outside of the family to take action and being in uniform can make a big difference. Hope that helps. Michelechromosone4 wrote: Hi allIm new member on

We made my stepson go the pediatric burn unit at Shriner's Hospital

for Children. Horribly graphic and sad but NOTHING else was working

and we were getting no-where with less intensive ideas. He had set

our basement on fire with spray paint and a lighter he stole from

someone's car.
