Guest guest
The 123 Magic (and Love & Logic, which is a similar program) did *not* work well for us - mainly because my son's meltdowns and behavior were a result of his OCD. You all probably know there's no logic to obsessions or compulsions, and that regular discipline - especially an inflexible program (123 Magic has this rule about time outs, that you force the child into time out, no matter what) - can make things worse. My son's meltdowns actually increased as a toddler with 123 Magic. And we were punishing him for his compulsions, though we didn't realize it at the time. A really good book for us turned out to be Ross Greene's " The Explosive Child " (that and Sheedy Kurcinka's " Spirited Child " books). The 123 Magic program *did* work for 'regular' stuff, once we figured out what was OCD and what wasn't (easier said than done when your 4 y.o. can't talk about it). hope this helps, Sandy D. in Michigan
