Guest guest
Ah Rochelle ... Perhaps it is deeper than a perception change? Perhaps the change of perception is a by-product or a symptom of the reason for the silicon? Why DID we have a band? Yes, be able to buy normal clothes, to fit in normal seats, to look normal so we don't stand out in the crowd we are trying to hide in. But what about the deeper reasons ... walk without puffing, sleep without snoring, live longer, reduce the risks of diabetes, hypertension, cancer, liver disease, bone and arthritic conditions and subsequent conditions such as would result in further surgeries - joint replacements, eye surgery for glaucoma as a result of diabetes, limb amputation etc. Then there are the other ones like ... who will lift the coffin if I die fat (and I once saw a coffin with a large elderly lady inside have its bottom fall out ... they just lowered the top over the base, but ...), what if the chair falls and breaks under my weight?, or again, I was at a friends house when the floor gave way in their toilet (yes due to rotten floor boards but who believes that when you're fat). Like reducing the yearly cost of co-morbidities to the government (what is it - $10,000 per person per year for sufferers of Type 2?) HMMM - that's about one band for a life cure. So is it totally about "looking" normal? or being "normal". I think the silicon believes it has a greater more noble task to perform.
