Guest guest
Hello all, I've been getting the group's posts emailed to me for several weeks (has it been a few months?!) and haven't yet said hello, but, since you asked... I just moved to the bay area from the east coast last year and spent the first year figuring out where to get the GF things I need. Believe it or not, the system is a little different out here on the left coast. I joined this group after discovering Mariposa this fall and so far, it's been great! I was diagnosed with Celiac when I was about 3 years old, so the diet has been a lifelong challenge and not without its bumps in the road. Overall, though, I feel really lucky to be such a healthy person. I am always joking (and have been for years) that we celiacs are !Taking Over the World! because GF issues have become more and more publicized... and with the new attention comes new innovations and new challenges. Particularly creative challenges for me, as I never was much of a baker or chef -- y'know, I just didn't grow up with all this stuff! It's like a whole new world of possibility. So, that's me. I'm so glad this list is here. I've already learned a bunch and it's so nice to know that people are out there, even if their intentions don't include GF world domination. Thanks for asking about us quiet new folk!
Guest guest
I have found probiotics can sometimes irritate my bowels when I have been sick. Before you check the yeast option, you may want to pause or reduce the Florastor until you recover a bit. I did well with taking bromelain for a while until things calmed down. If you were very sick during your challenge, it may take a while for things to heal up, so eat easy-to-digest foods and get lots of rest for a while. I've been lurking for a few weeks now, reading back posts and learning a lot. I am still trying to determine whether I am gluten sensitive or celiac. I had done my own 2 week trial in November and felt better than I had in years (and realized the constant tummy aches and everything that goes with it is not actually normal). But I wanted to know if I had celiac so I went back on gluten to do the tests and was miserable again. I went GF again (and likely forever) on 12/22. The blood work for celiac came back negative, but on the higher side of negative, if that makes sense, and I had an endoscopy 2 weeks ago as well - I find out results next week. I'm now back on a modified elimination diet to see if I have any other food allergies/intolerances and so far haven't noticed anything other than the probiotics I started taking a few days ago have brought back some GI problems, so now I am wondernig if maybe my issue is yeast-related in addition to or instead of gluten (one of the probiotics is Florastor which is a yeast based product). Have any of you used Florastor and had any issues with it? Jean
