Omg No experience but my biggest fear.Hugs to you? Sounds lame- but I wish I could say more.Sent from my iPhone

When I first joined this group years ago certain topics got you kicked off by the moderator-discussing religon, politics, sexuality. This is a group to help each other with the day to day problems of raising children on the spectrum. Yes we all have strong beleifs that may effect how we raise our child but we do need to be sensitive to others convictions. I have made a point not to discuss any of the above topics with school personel because A) it does not change how that person treats my child B) none of my business.

I have read posts but not been active in this group for a while. I came back looking for advice. My 18 yo child on the high end of the spectrum got arrested on a police pick-up to take him to the psych hospital. He was kept in jail for about 36 hours on the psych wing and not given of his routine meds (which he did ask for and tell them the dosages, when, etc) which caused at least one seizure (was witnessed by his attorney), then transferred back to the hospital he was supposed to go into in the first place. Have other parents had this experience with their child and how did you help them cope with the stress of the legal system-he was charged with 4 misdemeanors and at this point is having a trial. Have other people had police not respond properly to their autistic child. Unfortunately in the town I live in the police have had to take a shoot first and ask questions later. My son was tased twice and then taken down by three officers-thank goodness my husband was with him so he could tell them he was unarmed. He is having problems with working his butt off last semester to be a straight A student and now being a criminal.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have had experiences with the police. When I have time, I will tell you all of them. Does your local police force have a CID officer? That's crisis intervention training. I will tell you about the meds. Staff cannot give him the meds until he is seen by the unit psyhciatrist. My son has been in jail though overnight in a small town. He was treated with respect but he was in there under suspicion of arson. He was released the next morning. Turns out the woman who was renting the house burned it. The police brought him to the house when they picked him up and asked if he had mental problems. My son was kicking the windows in the patrol car when they came to the house. They showed respect at that time also. I have more

stories but like I said, when I have time. To: "autism-aspergers " <autism-aspergers > Cc: "autism-aspergers " <autism-aspergers > Sent: Tuesday, May 8, 2012 10:36 AM Subject:
