Guest guest
I know about the melatonin. My grandson's DAN doctor recommended it not only for sleep, but because it is an antioxidant. It is a naturally occurring hormone found in the body. The pineal gland which is found in the center of the brain normally secrets melatonin in the absence of light, which in turn makes you sleepy. However, with the invention of the light bulb, we no longer rely on natural light alone and with artificial lighting, many people's pineal glands have stopped producing the amount of melatonin the body actually needs. I give my grandson (5 years old with ASD) 3 mg. melatonin every evening about 30 minutes before his bedtime. He often puts himself to bed within 30 minutes. The melatonin helps with the sleeping (I use it myself and it has improved my quality of sleep also). If it doesn't help with the sleep, it has the antioxidant properties which are benefical for everyone. Hope this answers part of your questions.
