Guest guest
Hello! My daughter is 13, and although we noticed some OCD type behaviors in the past, she also exhibited an explosion in her OCD behavior at age 12. She has been working with a therapist for the past 4 months, but she has " just right " OCD, so the ERP is very difficult for us and the therapist to achieve. She started on Zoloft about a month ago, and we finally got in to see the child psychiatrist last week after waiting about 2 1/2 months! Yes, this is a great forum to post issues, but I find it most helpful to read and know that we are all together in this wonderful world of OCD, where anything can and will happen. We are going through a blessed " good " time right now. I don't know if it is the medicine, or the lack of stress due to summer being here, so not homework, strict bedtimes, early mornings, etc. I don't question it too much, just am enjoying the ride. Our daughter also is a time bomb that explodes when she is home. She has losts of problems with transitions (waking up to getting ready, awake to getting ready for bed, etc.), so school was especially difficult. She was late so often at school, I am ashamed to say that the attendance office knew her on a first name basis. She still has issues with going to a friend's house and hiding all her OCD traits, then coming home and having rituals for hours at a time to make up for " hiding " these traits. You are not alone in this AT ALL! Hang tough, post often, and take time for yourself. I am lucky enough to have a couple good friends, one whose son has Aspergers, and the other with 2 dyslexic kids, so we often meet for coffee to vent and share some hard times, and also take time to laugh and realize that no matter how bleak it seems, our kids are healthy and relatively happy. Good luck, and take care. Theresa in Colorado
