Hi Kim and Elsie from Sue,

Kim You had some great advice about adding

the new drink slowly to an old drink so kids

would get use to it easier than switching all at once...

But please Avoid Silk milk...:))

I made the same mistake of switching to soy milk

from Rice Dream 5 years ago for ONLY one month.

At the time..my ND. did EAV.. and asked me WHAT I was doing

DIFFERENT???

I said I switched to soy milk...

WELL--- my Zinc levels and other minerals PLUMMETED.

She could hardly believe how MUCH they dropped from the

previous appt... AND I was more SICKLY again.

So Moral of the story is AVOID NON- fermented soy.

It has antinutrients..and lowers immunity.

BUT( FERMENTED soy = miso, tempth, & natto..those ARE OK.)

-------But even those may be hard on some people.

Below is the link I posted this afternoon... but here is the summary

as well... EACH of the 24 links has tons of info in it...so It worth

googling this topic...

"Why Soy Can Damage Your Health "

Newest Research On Why You Should Avoid Soy - by Sally Fallon & G. Enig, Ph.D. - What was once a minor crop, listed in the 1913 US Department of Agriculture (USDA) handbook not as a food but as an industrial product, now covers 72 million acres of American farmland.

Soy May Cause Cancer and Brain Damage - Two senior US government scientists have revealed that chemicals in soy could increase the risk of breast cancer in women, brain damage in both men and women, and abnormalities in infants.

The Trouble With Tofu: Soy and the Brain -by D. MacArthur - "Tofu Shrinks Brain!" Not a science fiction scenario, this sobering soybean revelation is for real. But how did the "poster bean" of the '90s go wrong? Apparently, in many ways -- none of which bode well for the brain.

Soy: Too Good to be True - by Finucan & Charlotte Gerson - While even in 1966 there was considerable research on the harmful substances within soybeans, you'll be hard pressed to find articles today that claim soy is anything short of a miracle-food. As soy gains more and more popularity through industry advertising, we are moved once again to raise our voice of concern.

Learn The Truth About The Historical Use Of Soy - Just How Much Soy Did Asians Eat? In short, not that much, and contrary to what the industry may claim, soy has never been a staple in Asia. A study of the history of soy use in Asia shows that the poor used it during times of extreme food shortage, and only when the soybeans were carefully prepared (e.g. by lengthy fermentation) to destroy the soy toxins. Yes, the Asians understood soy all right!

High Soy Diet During Pregnancy And Nursing May Cause Developmental Changes In Children - Two separate studies -- one in animals and the other in humans, suggest that a diet high in soybeans and other legumes during pregnancy and breastfeeding may have a subtle but long-term impact on the development of children.

Response To Those Who Believe Soy Is Healthy - In a recent Letter to the Editor of the Townsend Letter, Sally Fallon and Dr. Enig make the case that soy is not the health food that it is claimed to be. Hi Elsie,I can understand your concerns about starting thediet. I have 2 ASD sons, born 18 years apart. Ifound out about the diet about a year ago, whenmy second son, , was diagnosed. was tested for food allergies andsensitivities. He did not test allergic forgluten and casein, but the diet still made a HUGEimpact on his behavior.I spoke to my older son, Damien, about doing thediet. He wasn't that interested, and so I reallyhaven't pursued it. I think if you wanted tochange the eating habits of an older child, thewhole family would have to change. ly, themain reason we all haven't is finances. I think the diet can make an impact on an olderchild, but the results might take longer to see.If you can afford it, my suggestion would be totake it slow and change one food at a time. Forexample, milk. Buy whatever milk substituteyou'd like (Silk is delicious) and just startmixing it with regular milk, slowly reducing theamt of regular milk, until the change is made. Then do that with another food, like yogurt. There are really good substitutes for gluten andcasein out there. I live in the middle ofnowhere, and don't really have trouble findingwhat I need. The only thing that is hard to replace is bread.I just removed it from my son's diet and usedrice cakes and homemade waffles and muffinsinstead.I would just try explaining to your child thatthese foods make him sick, so you want to stopgiving them. I made the mistake of telling myolder son it would help his autism. He's veryhigh functioning and sensitive about beingautistic. I think he took it as me wanting tochange "him". It did make a big difference in my younger son'sbehaviours, but he was still himself.Sorry if this is a bit rambly.Kim--- Elsie Salem <lcmom507> wrote:> My son is not on the GFCF diet.
