Guest guest
Sounds like ICD-9 code 780 "General Symptoms". 99051 doesn't really explain what it is, I bet we can always find a more specific code for whatever you would use 99051. Guest guest
My understanding is that 99051 is an additional code (you still bill your regular E & M code) that you use when you have regular “after-hours” office hours (weekends and after 5 – or whatever the standard closing time is in your area). I’ve never billed this, so I’m not sure if anyone is actually paying it. But as the adage goes “if you do it, bill it.” Medicare does actually look at how often codes are used and adds payment or drops off codes that aren’t being used (or so I’ve been told). Guest guest
Wayne, I bill it. I get paid a little by a couple of companies. I have been paid by Aetna and Cigna only, or at least they have allowed me to bill the patient. Pay is around $20 by Aetna and $13.50 from Cigna. No payment and not billable according to Horizon, Medicare, Oxford, United, or Healthnet. Guest guest
Yes, this is the code you are suppose to use if you meet someone after hours at the office rather than the hospital. I have variable success with getting it paid. ________________________________ From: on behalf of nancy blake Sent: Thu 10/2/2008 3:29 PM To: Subject: Re: CPT 99051 Sounds like ICD-9 code 780 " General Symptoms " . 99051 doesn't really explain what it is, I bet we can always find a more specific code for whatever you would use 99051. ________________________________ To: Practice Improvements < > Sent: Thursday, October 2, 2008 4:33:05 PM Subject: CPT 99051 Has anyone here submitted and been paid on CPT code 99051? Guest guest
99051 is for regularly scheduled office hours that are offered nights, evenings, weekends and holidays. 99050 is for coming in outside of routine office hours to meet a patient. Guest guest
I have billed it, but never been paid or allowed to bill the patient. Interesting comparison: my fee associated with 99051 is $10 and for 99050 is $35. If I call my vet out on a weekend, holiday or after 5pm on a weekday, he charges $40 for the farm call plus$75 for after hours, and he gets every penny of that $115. He also gets $35 for a flourescene (spell?) eye exam, $25 to remove a shoe, $15 for a neuro exam, $45 to give banamine IV and gastrogard, just to name a few charges I can recall off the top of my head. What a world...Annie 99051 is for regularly scheduled office hours that are offered nights, evenings, weekends and holidays. 99050 is for coming in outside of routine office hours to meet a patient. Guest guest
Thanks Kathy. At least I've verified someone is being paid by someone. I am expecting to get paid by Aetna on a non-capitated patient that we see late. We just havne't seen our Aetna patients lately (strange). I'll keep an eye out for Cigna. But we're putting it on all of them now. [Practiceimprovemen t1] CPT 99051 Has anyone here submitted and been paid on CPT code 99051?
