great update and congrats on your wt loss so far take care amber

Checking in

It's been a while since I've even viewed this newsgroup. I've been

so involved at work, I haven't had time. I think returning to work

is part of the reason my weight-loss has picked up the past couple

weeks as well. I returned to work just over a month ago, but to

modified duty... 7 weeks post-op... doing administrative work. I

have since returned to working in the ER part of the time and still

doing administrative stuff too. I have another week before I return

to my normally scheduled night-shift ER. I'm currently only doing 8-

hour shifts, but I'll go 12-hour the second week of June.

Now for weight-loss. Just after surgery, on March 10, I was loosing

quite a bit. I then slowed down in weight-loss, right around the

400-pound mark. I've since picked up speed the past 2 weeks. I am

now 11 weeks post op and I've hit the 100 pound loss mark. Today,

my weight was 363.0 pounds. My starting weight was 463.5 pounds.

Even people that are poor observers, that didn't know I had weight-

loss surgery are begining to notice. My nickname, the one on my

nametag at work is " Big Ron " . Since we don't use our last names on

our nametags (just for the ER and the Medical Guard Unit... Queen of

the Valley's own state prison) and I'm not the only Ron, I use my

nickname. Many of my co-workers are now calling me " Shrinking Ron "

I tend to have more energy than before surgery. Today I did a short

shift. It was supposed to be a 4-hour shift, but turned into 5.

When I arrived, I felt like I was bouncing off the walls. I soon

slowed down and hardly moving at the end. I think I must have

needed food. I ate and had a bunch of energy again. Since my

stomach no longer tells me I'm hungry, I have to learn by other

clues that I need to eat. I'm trying to get all my protein through

high-content protein foods, like vegemeats. I don't seem to have

any issue with lactose, although I haven't had any straight milk.

I've had all kinds of cheese, yogurt... but I guess they are

cultured. I have found out that there is a product that my body can

NOT deal with... Splenda. My body does not tolerate that stuff! I

get terrible gas/explosive diarhea after a little bit. Since I look

for low-carb foods, I often see stuff advertised as low-carb. I

have to look to see if it is deceptive advertising by looking for

sugar alcohols. Thankfully, they still list the TRUE carbohydrates

and not just the " effective " carbohydrates. That is one tip that I

won't tolerate it... if they say the key word " Net Carbs " . I've

been experimenting with a few more foods... I always do so very

nervously. I cross my fingers and try just a small amount. So far,

I haven't had a lot of bad reactions though.

I guess that's all for now.

Hi All, I haven't posted for a long time since Bre has been doing so

well. I also needed a break because of all the " other " things going on

in my life. It has finally mellowed out now!!

Bre ended up on 200mg. of zoloft and still takes some buspar.

The main thing for her recovery is she is able to recognise ocd and

does an exposure right away. Now she is driving and is causing anxiety

for me! LOL. It is hard to let go and not worry so much about her

because of her ocd. But I also have to admit I am very proud of her

hard work and determination to fight ocd. I look back at the long,

hard, road and realize there IS hope and light at the end of the

tunnel. Well, just wanted to say hi to all you " know " me!

Take care, Sandy
