Hello all,

My 17 year old son -soon to be 18- has OCD. He has contamination

issues - spends too much time in the bathroom. We go thru a lot of

soap and toilet paper, clogged toilets. He was on medication until

about 6 months ago. It really helped, but he decided that he didn't

want to take it anymore. He is currently not taking medication or

seeing a therapist. I'm very frustrated. Professionals have described

his OCD as mild, but it's not getting any better and seems to be

spreading to new areas. I have OCD and am on medication for it. It's

very difficult for me to see my son suffering from OCD especially when

I know there is effective treatment for it.

We tried recently to take him to a therapist. The therapist said he

couldn't help him if he didn't want to be there. He is very defensive

about his OCD and in denial. I'm working on accepting my son where he

is at the moment. I want to have a good relationship with him and not

let my frustation with him get in the way of that. Thank God, I have

my husband's support in dealing with his OCD. We can vent to each

other. This is a difficult time. We would like my son to go to

college. He doesn't know if he wants to go to college and doesn't know

what else to do. We're trying to guide him. I'm trying to take it one

day at a time and not worry about his future. I've tried to find

support groups in the Pittsburgh area - not much available. Anyone

know of any? I'm looking for help in coping with a teenager who

rejects treatment including suggestions on setting limits on his OCD

symptoms. I'd welcome support, feedback, book suggestions etc.

Thank you
