well another first for medicine in the US of A

I have received a fax from the Nursing Home. Had a long term

patient there pass away 10 days ago . DX CHf / arrhythmia/

Dypsnea " 's insurance will not cover the morphine used for end of life comfort "

" please do a prior auth form and send back " I am asked ( of course this ain't no PRIOR auth any more...) Can it get any worse ? We do not now allow morphine for end of life dyspnea and chf ?

Heaven help us.( for hippaa purposes all my patients are now named . Unless they re named or maybe Isabel )-- If you are a patient please allow up to 12 hours for a reply by email/

this is very sad. I hope the executive(s) who came up with this particular rule has a good doctor like you when they are dying. I hope their insurance company does not deny them basic pain relief and comfort care.
