Have you tested for PANDAS?  It's probably not something you should test for right now since she just had strep but it sounds like she may have PANDAS.  Does she have any ocd issues or tics?  My son has been on a long term abx for over a year as he has chronic bronchitis and that seems to be the only thing that keeps it away.  He doesn't have PANDAS, though.  You may want to consider going on some abx for a while.  What does your DAN say?CherylHi Listmates,Looking for some input. My daughter has lost her Autism diagnosis, but she still has attention issues, some speech delay, and random gut issues. I call it "Autism Light". Anyway, 2 weeks ago she got strep throat. We've chelated for 3 years and done biomed for almost 4. During that entire time, we went from a child who was always, ALWAYS sick, to a child who has gotten sick twice in 4 years. This recent bout of strep was her first of the kind and it was nasty. She was very sick, high fever and all.We went on antibiotics. I was convinced we would have all of our gut problems back since she is and was such a yeasty kid.But in fact, just the opposite happened! Her BM's became perfect! And her attention was fabulous, receptive skills unparalleled. She lost her quick temper and actually shared with her sister (sharing is not easy for her at all). We've been off the antibiotics for almost a week now and all of the old behaviors are returning. She was treated with vancomycin for clostridia years ago. Does anyone think or have any experience with an underlying bacterial infection causing this kind of behavior? Thanks,

We absolutely had those kind of behaviors with Clostridia.

aggression, irritability, etc. We began SCD in december. did

vancomycin/flagyl in January. we've seen improvement. The concern

about treating these kids with antibiotics is that the clostridia can

often come back. we attempted to keep this from happening by having

SCD going before/during/after the antibiotics and we're also using S.

boulardii. I think we're winning, but time will tell :) Our little

guy's belly is still distended at times and when we brought that up to

the DAN! last week, she suggested doing the abx again at some point in

the future if antifungals don't resolve the bloating.

Congrats on losing the diagnosis...that's great!

, what are you doing to replenish gut flora? What is her diet

like currently? Congrats on losing autism diagnosis. I bet there

are lots of kids walking around like your daughter right now who

never had a diagnosis, but with a gut profile similar. They have

the bac infections but didn't cross blood brain barrier, maybe they

are infected but didn't suffer brain inflammation causing autism

symptoms. I think my son had infections from birth but at 18 months

after a strong reaction to MMR and then another to flu shot he was

gone. I think for him his brain became infected at this point.

In any case, we need to continue to support immune system to bring

things into balance. Strong diet will help. I think it's great

that during strep treatment she seemed to handle the infection

normally as the immune system should. However something can break

the camels back again. As soon as we see behaviors return I think

it's so important to get full force again with diet, antifungal,

antiviral, antibiodic if necessary. Lots of probiotics through

foods, capsules to replenish gut to try to bring balance to the

system.

We're all pushing for recovery and improvement, and as more kids

recover I think the focus will shift to what you are experiencing.

On going care.

My son has horrible problems with his bowel movements. In his whole

life he has never had solid bm's. When he was on Augmentin a few

years ago, for the first time he had solid bm's and was also very

pleasant and cooperative. Once off, the bm's were back to the way

they were before. I couldn't figure it out either.
