Guest guest
Has anyone used vancomycin for clostridia for long periods of time.My son is doing a 6 day trial.
Guest guest
Vanco is the " Rocket Fuel " of antibiotics. I would be very hesitant to put my child on it for something less than bacterial meningitis. It's the stuff they use to kill the drug-resistant bacterial strains. Definitely ask your dr. why they want to use such a powerful med.

Guest guest
From what I understand, some DAN docs are using it for PANDAS, strep and as part of biofilm protocol. I met a mom in my DANs office who said it was what stopped her daughters OCD for good. We haven't tried it. I've read the package insert and it is VERY potent and works only in the gut, not systemically. Guest guest
Vanco is systemic. It's used in Bacterial Meningitis for the " drug- resistant " strains not only because of its potency, but because it can cross into the CSF.
Guest guest
We didn't do it for very long. 10 days. ON day 3 we started flagyl for 10 days as well, so they overlapped by a week. seems to have worked pretty well. saw huge aggression while on it (massive toxins released?) then it tapered off and it's been much smoother sailing since. that was january. we're also scd and using s. boulardii and probiotics. hope that helps. Guest guest
It doesn´t sound too good to me 6 days round abx for clostridia. There are several reports telling that many autistic children improve a lot on vancomycine but then regress after a while. You can search at pubmed.com: " vancomycin autism " I don´t know about vanco for long time, we saved this abx as last resource, we used flagyl for 3.5 months after positive test for clostridia. It was very clear the calming effect of this abx. Guest guest
I believe that's when administered with an IV...I'm pretty sure it doesn't cross the GI tract when administered orally. Guest guest
Those reports are what prompted me to implement SCD before we did the vanco/flagyl. and we had other naturals on board to help keep the clostridia from returning. I'm not sure if we've been truly successful yet, it's been 2.5 months since we did the abx. I'm hoping at this point if it was going to make a nasty return, it already would have. Most info I've seen says it comes back within a few weeks of discontinuing the antibiotics. His abdomen is still slightly distended. I do know that yeast is still an issue. but behaviors are much much better. Guest guest
Hi, Thats correct its not absorbed orally. I don't know about Vanco in the face of " leaky Gut " however. > > > > Vanco is systemic. Guest guest
We are using it orally instead of injection for 6 days only for trial.thesman609 wrote: Hi,Thats correct its not absorbed orally.
