After treating with antivirals is it easier for the gut to heal?

My boys have been SCD for two years now and have not been able to move beyond the initial stages and cannot tolerate any fruit except pear, lemon, and limes. They still have such major gastrointestinal distress - bloated belly, mushy BMs, occasional constipation, definate motility problems. I will be starting them on Virastop this summer and then will add lysine and OLE. Has anyone seen good results in healing of gastrointestinal issues after treating with antivirals. I am sure these gut issues and inflammation are why my boys still have no speech, have very poor attention span, and trouble learning and playing properly.
