Guest guest
" Made by Nicky's sister Lizzie Gottlieb, the film is a sister's search to understand her brother's mysterious inner life and a larger effort to comprehend Asperger Syndrome and the people who struggle with it. " Wow! She's got to make a whole documentary in order to understand AS? Funny how we can look at an NT and understand them and undverstand what motivates them, but this woman can live with here brother her whole life and not understand him. And her kind wants to make US like them? If I am already so disrespected by NTs, I don't see that shedding more brain cells to be like them is going to help my situation. Does your family understand you or even tried? Anyone else here think that the people they grew up with knows them well at all? Do they really know what it feels like to be in your shoes? At least this woman is doing something to further her understanding and stated in her bio that one of her concerns is his future. Well you might say that the one reason she made the film is because she knows sometime down the road, Mom and Dad won't be around to support him and the burden will fall to her. That would be true but seeing as how funding and support from any outside source will be hard to come by, I think her position is practical. Maybe this is just the type of film WE need to make. One that showcases difficulties that are resolved through listening to US and not trying to CURE us. Please don't say they won't listen or watch, otherwise what's the point of doing fundraising like MIC project. People need to be taught and I just thought the film gave so much insight to what it is like to have Asperger's that I wanted to share. If it happens to air again try to watch and then tell me what you think. Kim
Guest guest
" Does your family understand you or even tried? " They have done a little bit of web research, but that was about it. They don't listen to the MIC podcasts BTW, nor do they listen to our music, nor do they go to see the art exhibits, nor do they care about my artwork. They just don't care. " Maybe this is just the type of film WE need to make. One that showcases difficulties that are resolved through listening to US and not trying to CURE us. " Raven and I are actually toying with the idea of doing video podcasts at some point in the future. And in a while, we will be airing podcasts where we interview real Aspies. The part that goaded me was where the guy's dad is shaving him and he says he wants to live there another year and his dad gets startled and looks at him. As if he expects that this is not a lifelong commitment he has to make to his son's welfare. If you notice, his son CAN shave alone. His mom merely supervises him. His dad actually shaves him. That makes his father an impatient enabler who seems hell bent on getting him out of the house whereas his mom seems to be a nurturer, slowly and patiently teaching him the skills he needs to make him more self-sufficent. Is the daughter too obtuse to realize that her brother's AS is exacerbated by his father? Evidentally not. Apparently the only thing she was interested in was having the rest of the world sit in on this journey of discovery. NTs are going to watch that thing and say what a pitiful speciment hat AS boy is not knowing that this girl has increased the mystification of the syndrome with her clueless film.
