Guest guest
I've had depression all my life, but it definitely got much worse during the treatment, both times. My doc was willing to raise the level of my meds, which kept me relatively sane. Sharon in NW WashingtonAll I have seen teaches me to trust in the Creator for all that I have not seen. Ralph Waldo Emersonhi everyone- there are over 700 folks signed up on this group; I would really appreciate it if as many people as possible would respond to this question- I'm gathering information about the likely hood of getting depression from treatment, and a poll would be an excellent way to find this out. Guest guest
I have treated many times and the second time they tried to put me on antidepressants . I took them for one week , they depressed me more than the treatment did lol I have treated 3 times after that and without antidepressants which I didn't need . If you have a good support system in place then antidepressants aren't really needed . My family was on the watch for depression while I was on treatment and would have told the doctors immediately . depression hi everyone- there are over 700 folks signed up on this group; I would really appreciate it if as many people as possible would respond to this question- I'm gathering information about the likely hood of getting depression from treatment, and a poll would be an excellent way to find this out. Please tell me- if you are undergoing interferon treatments of any kind, have you become depressed or not due to this. PLEASE respond if you have not- I tend to get more of those that have negative side effects to even take the poll then those that have none- and the "none" is almost more important to know about in these polls.I am a biologist about to start treatment. I am not depressed, but was put on antidepressents anyways; which made me very sick, so I'm not taking them until and only IF I need them.Thank you so much for your participation! Guest guest
I've treated 3 times since the early '90's. Depression all 3 times. Put on antidepressants each tx, which helped after the Doc's doubled the initial dose. Not a cure all, but they helped me get through it all with some spirit of hope. Seems like depression is almost always present during tx. > > hi everyone- there are over 700 folks signed up on this group; I would > really appreciate it if as many people as possible would respond to > this question- I'm gathering information about the likely hood of > getting depression from treatment, and a poll would be an excellent way > to find this out. > Please tell me- if you are undergoing interferon treatments of any > kind, have you become depressed or not due to this. Guest guest
I think that depression can be a side effect of Hep anyway,, I was put on an antidepressant before I knew I even had hep C, but when I found out that I was infected, I was glad that I was on celexa already,, so when I read that treatment can cause depression to get worse or become an issue, my doc upped my dose before I started tx and so I never had any issues with depression while on tx.. The Interferon depletes the seretonin in the brain and that can ALSO cause insomnia which it did for me so my doc gave me restoril for sleep and it worked great.. I was able to reduce my antidepressant nearly two years ago after being undetectible for more than 3 years after finishing tx.. I had to cut it back very slowly tho,, but never had any 'rebound' problems,, Rick Kipp wrote: I've treated 3 times since the early '90's. Depression all 3 times. Guest guest
Liz, I would disagree with your statement that said if one has a good support system that antidepressants arent really needed.. the seretonin depletes the brain chemistry and no amount of emotional support will change THAT chemical imbalance,, and I believe that for most,, an SSRI will be very beneficial and can help one actually complete treatment. Being very upset and depressed can add to additional heart problems, to high blood pressure, so stroke and heart attack can be more of a risk if one is very down emotionally while on tx.. You are lucky that you didnt have the depression problem, but that is rare,, and needing the antidepressant is more the norm.... just my 2 cents,,, jax elizabethnv1 wrote: I have treated many times and the second time they tried to put me on antidepressants . Guest guest
I guess for most depression is a real problem on tx , but it just never was for me . My family has been so great and supportive that I am happy even when I am sick from tx lol depression hi everyone- there are over 700 folks signed up on this group; I would really appreciate it if as many people as possible would respond to this question- I'm gathering information about the likely hood of getting depression from treatment, and a poll would be an excellent way to find this out. Guest guest
I do agree that having a supportive family can really make the difference.. Im so glad you didnt have the depression tho Liz, I had it before I even knew I had hep c and thankfully, with the celexa, I didnt have any issues with it while on tx, but after being on this forum for so many years, I have seen others totally dismantle their lives on tx from the depression,, and that makes me so sad! elizabethnv1 wrote: I guess for most depression is a real problem on tx , but it just never was for me . Guest guest
Having loving family around me at all times really did make a difference . The first time I treated for 15 months and back then they didn't give anti d's and I was unmarried at the time so I did have some depression . depression hi everyone- there are over 700 folks signed up on this group; I would really appreciate it if as many people as possible would respond to this question- I'm gathering information about the likely hood of getting depression from treatment, and a poll would be an excellent way to find this out.
