Guest guest
Since joining I have asked few, lurked lots, and have learned even more. I have had Hep C since I was 13, so 33 years now and was seriously considering treatment, I do not believe I will now. I live alone, am responsible for the care of my 4 dogs, 4 cats, 2 bunnies and 65-75 exotic birds. (I do private rescue and breed on a small scale) From what I have heard there is no way I would beable to ensure my having the ability to care for myself and/or my crew. I get sick, very sick at times but it sounds as if treatment, if you make it through and if it is sucessful can leave a person with another set of life long issues, is it worth it, I am thinking not. My other concern is my friends 3 year old watching the effect of treatment and not being old enough to fully understand, just seeing me get sick and sicker for a year. Was it worth it, be honest, would you all do it over? Thanks, Dana Hepatitis_C_Central wrote: > Hepatitis_C_Central > Hepatitis_C_Central > Messages In This Digest (25 > Messages) > 1a. > Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1b. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Lynne Dunham > 1c. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Sheena > 1d. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1e. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1f. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Janet > 1g. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1h. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Janet > 1i. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Sheena > 1j. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Lynne Dunham > 1k. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Sheena > 1l. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1m. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Sheena > 1n. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > SHARON CROSBY > 1o. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1p. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Sheena > 1q. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Jackie on > 1r. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Jackie on > 1s. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > joyceann silva > 1t. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1u. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Dorothy > 1v. > Re: Ready to quit > From: > Sheena > 2a. > Grandma's Boyfriend > From: > anne > 2b. > Re: Grandma's Boyfriend > From: > elizabeth easterday > 3. > Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance Info > From: > smalk50 > View All Topics | Create New Topic > Messages > 1a. > Ready to quit > Posted by: " Dorothy " > dorv@... >  > dabbvaccaro > Thu Jan 17, 2008 4:29 am (PST) > My RA has flared again bad as I reduced the prednisone dose. " > Grandma turned on the TV, and the rece ption was terrible. She started adjusting the knobs, trying to get the picture in focus. Frustrated, she started hitting the backside of the TV hoping to fix the problem. > The little boy heard the doorbell ring, so he hurried to open the door and there stood Grandma's minister. The minister said, " Hello son, is your Grandma home? " > The little boy replied, " Yeah, she's in the bedroom bangin' her boyfriend.
Guest guest
Dana, I can understand what you are saying and your fears ARE warranted.. this tx while it can be doable, it can be very very difficult too.. however, how long has it been since you've had a biopsy? Perhaps before you make that decision, you need to have a biopsy so you can tell what stage you are because honey, IF you are stage 3-4, then you will need to put all your responsibilities aside to do treatment or else you will not have a future of many years. I know it can be scary but tx is the only way to save your life IF you are advancing in your disease.. Im sorry that it 'may' scare your friends daughter, but watching you dying would be very traumatic too.. kids do understand tx and it can be explained to her in a way that she can understand... now you asked if knowing then what I know now, would I do tx again... IF I were stage 3-4 with grade 3 again, ABSOLUTELY, I WOULD do tx again, even knowing that I would end up permanently disabled because my family want me here even if Im not well enough to do all the things I used to do and need to rest more and take medications etc.. IF I were only stage 0-1 with a lower than 3 grade,, NO, I would NOT have treated then.. but I am glad that my life was saved and you will only know IF you need truely to do tx is to have that biopsy to see how much it has progressed .. if its nil, then you have plenty of time to wait for something more sure of cure and with less side effects... just remember, those birds and other animals in the future will not have to rescue them if you are too sick and dont tx to stop this virus NOW if you need to.. does that make sense?Dana Foussat wrote: Since joining I have asked few, lurked lots, and have learned even more. Guest guest
I think that I have answered this type of question before and I’ll tell you “my story in a nutshell.” I got HBV back around 1970 or so. I was diagnosed with HCV sometime within that last 15 years, not really sure. I also never had any medical problems attributable to HCV. About 5 or 6 years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. I was late 40’s. I controlled it with a medication. Two years ago, I developed peripheral neuropathy in one leg and was knocked for a loop. After seeing a number of specialists including The Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University, I didn’t get many answers, but did find out that I was positive for cryoglobulenemia. This is a condition that can develop from HCV and can cause a number of neurological problems. There is no treatment for it except to treat the underlying HCV. Last spring, some optic nerve problems developed as well and my rheumatologist said he thought that all of my issues, including the RA, probably were from the HCV. When my sight was threatened, I made arrangements to start tx as soon as possible. Due to the eye issues, it was put off 4 months and I started in mid September. My point is this – if I would have known what could potentially happen as a result of HCV, I would have treated it years ago. I told my doctor, “I always knew that it would probably get me one day, but I didn’t realize it could cripple me first.” Obviously, many people live long lives with HCV and never have a problem. They’ll die of a heart attack, stroke, auto accident, etc. I was “fortunate” enough to live long enough to have the HCV come back to bite me in the ass…………………you say you’ve had it 33 years. According to what I’ve read, that’s prime time for the problems to start popping up. I think that this is something that should be considered. I also live alone and have ONE cat. When I could hardly walk, it was extremely difficult for me to care for her. Cleaning the cat litter was the hardest part. If I had a dog, I would have had to give her away since I would never have been able to walk her and I considered sending Pearl back to the rescue group. I didn’t and I’m glad I didn’t. We managed with the help of a 78 year old neighbor and a good friend. I’m not suggesting that you sign on for a year of tx, but if you are concerned about caring for all your animals, who will care for them if you do become disabled? I’m just giving you some food for thought and I have to say that I admire anyone who does animal rescue work. I have considered doing volunteer work with Last Hope Animal Rescue here on Long Island, but I am so emotional that I’m not sure I could deal with issues of animal neglect, abuse or abandonment. I hope to one day feel differently and be able to do that. You are certainly an angel. Guest guest
Dana, I have 5 dogs, had a amazon gray parrot, and a young daughter. She was 7 when I went through first treatment. She was so helpful to me, I never was without water because of that child. *smiles* You will not be sick everyday. In fact a couple of days after my shot night I was about half way normal. My husband made me get out and help him buy the groceries. Yeah, I had to use the little carts they provide at the store. But the fact is you do what you have to do when you do treatment. And reach out to friends. Maybe you could have a friend come in and feed the animals for you. The day after shot night. Have some friend come in and be with your daughter during the sicky times. You will be able to help with your childs care, just will not feel up to running a marathon. Doug, one of the original moderator-owners here, he rode his bicycle all during treatment. He was a inspiration to me. Actually exercise and getting out can make you really feel better. My source of exercise was walking. I loved the fresh air, the sights as I walked along, and being able to talk to fellow walkers as I walked along.
Love JanetDana Foussat wrote: Since joining I have asked few, lurked lots, and have learned even more. Guest guest
Those icecream sundaes were also helpful eh Janet??? Love Janet

Thanks, Dana > Hi Dana, I just recently joined this group too and it seems that most of the people are doing the tx. I am not. I have had Hep C for 30 years now and even tho I have decided against, even have had to fight for my right not to treat with some doctors, I AM TREATING the hep C in other ways. I'd love to know what you have been doing, how are your liver enzymes and viral count? Do you have other complications from it? I understand your hesitation to take harsh drugs that could reduce your current quality of life. Thanks. Hugs, Cheri
