How much zinc are you giving. The dose for ASD kids is

generally their body weight plus and add'l 20 mgs per

day. So if you have a 50 pound kid he would need 50

mgs plus 20 mgs or 70 mgs daily). We use zinc

monomethinonine and it works well.

Some Dr's only reccomend 40 mg/mo more than 40 mg zinc a day, at certain levels

and in

some kids ZINC is toxic. You should def. check w/ your Dan DR on dosage.

Maybe try a different form of zinc. Vicky Long wrote: We have been using liquid zinc supplements (2x the RDA) and zinc monomethione for about 10 months. We are having the same problem with my son. Low zinc levels even with

zinc supps. So we just changed to a different kind hoping it will

help. How will I know if its working? Will I have to get more blood

tests to find out if its working and if so how long should I wait?---

Are you giving on an empty stomach, before bed, and away from calcium? Have you tried a cream form of zinc? Some have been able to raise zinc levels when adding the cream form. I read this somewhere on the www.ourkidsasd.com website under their zinc products listing.

I can not say I have seena ny improvements from upping

his zinc. Our son does have high copper as well. Since

we are doing IV chealation we need to keep his

minerals up. By supplementing with lots of zinc and

the other minerals we can continue the chelation which

has helped him greatly.

I have to agree with this. I'd been giving my

son 40 mg of liquid zinc per day for quite

awhile. Recently, he started throwing up about

20 min after taking his supplements.

I pulled everything, and started adding things

back one at a time. A few days in, I remembered

that I could take mega-doses of zinc when coming

down with something, but after awhile, the zinc

would make me naseous. So, it's definately up to

what the body needs, not a one size fits all.
