Guest guest
I agree that Pharmaceutical companies know what works and what does not, and what's good for you and what is dangerous. After all, they have done the tests. But most doctors are not much smarter than we are and cannot keep up with all the research. I suspect they prescribe based on faith and what they've heard from colleagues, or from the abstracts they've glanced over in medical journals. THEY haven't done the studies, and so chances are they do not really know what works and what does not. Although of course many will prescribe placebos for patients who think they need an actual prescription but who do not. Guest guest
I know what you mean. I think some of the meds that I was on have caused long term problems like liver trouble and other things. I have Aspergers... I was diagnosed when I was 6... when I was 8 they started putting me on all kind of medications... by the time I was 9 I was on the drug I would be on for the next decade... I was basically forced to take it... it stabilized my unstable behavior so that I would not end up institutionalized... by the time I was 19 I was living on my own in my own apartment (something specialists said would never happen)... on a whim I decided to look up this medication and discovered I was a walking, talking, living, breathing advertisement for the bad side effects of this drug... chronic back pain... diahrrea... constipation... male problems... and not to mention obesity (I was never obese until I was placed on this drug)... and so without medical supervision I decided to wean myself off of this medication... I have been completely off of it for 2 years and have never felt better! the people at my church have even told me they like me better off the drug . I wish the shrink had told my parents about the negative effects of the drug although they'd have made me take it anyway.Sincerely,Garr.> > I Personally Believe The Pharmeceutical Companies AND many doctors > know that dangerous drugs are dangerous long before the general > public does... sometimes even a decade.> > Sincerely,> Garr.> Start the year off right. Guest guest
Hi Garr, I lean anti-med myself although I am sure some folks need them. Even though the FDA has approved Risperdone for autism, there is no study that firmly indicates that any drug works for autism per se, although many drugs help with co-morbidities (such as ADHD). I have found through experience that due to our hypersensitivities and the failure of NTs to accommodate some of our basic needs, we tend to get set off. But when we create our own environments, we tend to be able to cope just fine. Many here are doing better once they leave their parents and go off on their own. Tom Administrator I have Aspergers...
