Guest guest
Can anyone tell me what metronizadole is? What is it used for and where can you buy it? Thanks . Guest guest
It is an antiparasite and anti-ameba drug. It is Rx only in the US. It is OTC in Mexico. It is very powerful and has lots of side effects, but works really well. It slows down liver phase 1 metabolism, so those who are already slow can get pretty yucky on it. The drug Tinidazole, available in Mexico but not the US, is reputed to be equally effective but with much fewer side effects. I am not personally familiar with it. The natural agents that can be used instead include tea tree oil and black walnut hulls, which are themselves fairly nasty. Andy > > Can anyone tell me what metronizadole is? Guest guest
Vicky, Metronidazole is also known as Flagyl. For autistic kids, it's most often used for treating gut overgrowths of chlostridia -- the presence of which shows up on a Great Plains Organic Acids test. Flagyl is extremely nauseating. When we gave it to our son, he vomited about 1 of every 4 doses, and you give 4 doses/day. The plus side of treatment was his hands went down, and there was a substantial improvement in language. The chlostridia has periodically come back. We can generally tell because he starts to hand-flap. Now we use Tinidazole which is a sister drug to Metronidazole. While not approved by the FDA, it is available almost everywhere else in the world and can be obtained in the US with a doctor's prescription from most compounding pharmacies. It is not nauseating and is only taken 2x/day. I believe some people also use vancomycin but I'm not familiar with its side-effects. Guest guest
A added comment to the use of Metronidazole is that it may also be helpful to add Saccharomyces boulardii (a pro-biotic) to the mix first or in conjunction with the Flagyl when treating clodtridial infections.
