Guest guest
My son Reece is 3 yrs old and doesn't sleep through the night. He'll wake up 1 to 2 times a night. Yes, it has gotten old and it's gotten to a point where if he gets up once a night, we call it a good night! It's all relative!!! I read a sleep study recently where they found that children with down syndrome wake more often and spend less time in REM sleep than the average child. Here's the link: http://www.aasmnet.org/Articles.aspx?id=903 Judy [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Sleep disorders Hi- My daughter was just diagnosed with sleep arousal disorder and disorder of the maintenace of sleep. We did a sleep study to rule of apnea. The report says that she only had one apnea and 11 hypopneas but that was normal. I am waiting to talk to the doctor and then I hope I will get more info about what if anything we can do. My daughter is 4 1/2 and has been waking up everynight and that means that we are waking up too. I am so tired of not getting enough sleep. She has reflux, if she doesnt have bad sleep apnea, then could it be reflux causing her sleep disorders. Anyone have the same issues? thank you Dawn

Guest guest
well..given all of the posts, I guess my Elise is not alone with her waking up in the night and I am not alone with no sleep. I thought it was getting worse but my husband pointed out that the difference now is that she is now mobile can open doors. She roams the house at night and gets into the refrigerator. I thought for sure that her waking up was due to sleep apnea and we could fix it with giving air at night but I guess not. gotta go and find some coffee..... Guest guest
Geeze we are not alone ! 9, will fall asleep quickly and easily, but he is a busy guy during the day. But .... He always awakens around 3 or 4 and gets up to meet us. Then its flip flopping all night from there, and ohhhhhh the taco position, we know that one well too. We did accidently find that a half dose of benadryl at bedtime helps him sleep through the night. But I don't like to give that unless he is having some sinus issues. Guest guest
I use half of the recommended dose. The full dose leaves him groggy in the morning. That is just what has worked for us. It helps a lot with the allergy stuff. We have to do claratin in the morning for it, but when the allergens are bad, we have to use benadryl or he ends up really sick. Sleep is a nice benefit for us both at those times. "Jules" Romero -- Re: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Sleep disorders I'm going to try benadryl. Maybe I can get a least a couple nights of good sleep. Guest guest
Oooh - I get to join another "club." Larissa falls asleep very quickly, but I can count on one hand the number of full nights sleep I've had since her birth almost 13 years ago. I sneak in to turn off her pink 25 watt bulb, since I know you are supposed to sleep in total darkness. I've gotten better about making her go back to her own bed when she wakes up, but I am so tired at 3 a.m. that I succumb to her request to lay down too, which, of course is bad parenting. She's a keeper !!! Oh and my 5 year old goes to bed sometimes without me knowing. I go looking for her and she's in bed, covered up asleep. She sleeps all night too. [DownSyndromeInfoEx change] Sleep disorders Hi- My daughter was just diagnosed with sleep arousal disorder and disorder of the maintenace of sleep.
