I too have noticed this device. After long hours of observing subjects

in the field I've concluded that the device is used by the subjects to

track the Earth's rotation. Subjects seem completely un aware of their

natural surroundings and are oblivious to all cues given to them by the

environment. Sad and pathetic as it may seem to us, they simply are

unable to function without it. Further research and tests prove that

when the device is removed and unavailable to them, they become highly

agitated. If possible, they will hurry out and come back with a

replacement. Try as I might to convey the possiblity of using the sun's

rays to track the rotation it seems an irrational notion to them. More

study is needed and further tests will be necessary.
