Yes, problems with emotional regulation is a very common issue with children on

the

spectrum. It has to do with what they call poor " executive functioning skills "

which comes

from the pre-frontal lob of the brain. It is the area of the brain that

involves impulse

control, forethought, planning, and organizing skills. It is the same problems

that

children with ADD have. Your son will eventually get better with his emotional

regulation,

but it will always be a struggle for him. Remember, most people on the

spectrum are

several years behind neurotypical children in their emotional development. With

nuturing

and support they grow in all areas, however, development will be slower.
