That has been a feature of the US since WWII especially. We have tried to be Mr. Nice Guy to the world and it has only turned out badly. It was our good willed food aid and medicine that allowed the populations to outstrip the land. For example: the desert in Sudan had been expanding since Roman times. It was noticed 2,000 years ago. In the 1800's, its population was about 3 million. By WWII it was 6 million. Today it is over 30 million. That's a huge increase. What that means is more mouths to feed in worsening land. More importantly, since population growth outstripped economic growth, it meant more people trapped in poverty because of lack of jobs. The cycle of poverty and higher birth rates simple continued this cycle.

For the time being, the media will put up images of starving people overseas and off will go the food. I thin that will last until food prices get so high and the dollar so weak that we have trouble supplying ourselves. Once that happens, we will keep more for ourselves.

Its just a shame that we have paved over so much farmland. We'll never get people out of those houses and away from those strip malls to get it back. We will find we needed it before long.

Forgive me for saying this folks but I could care less if other countries who could not properly manage their land are starving to death through lack of foresight. Half the countries we ship food to wouldn't have needed our food if they would not have deforested their land and then grazed it to sand afterwards. Yes, apportioning land towards biofuels is stupid, but Canada actually produces more food than they know what to do with and are still raking in the dough even as the US struggles to figure out how to keep the world fed with less and less land parcelled out to crops. Let Canada need the needy and let us focus on ourselves. We've been babysitting the rest of the world long enough. Then, when stupid politicians the world over get on the biofuel train, we will be able to sate their need, rake in enormous profits until they can develop their own lands for biofuel, and pay our bills in the meantime. Anyone with a basic grasp of economics saw this coming. Too bad

politicians are elected based on charisma contest and back door

dealings and backstabbing. even the US is importing wheat for the

first time since the 1940's because so much cropland is going to

higher value corn. Have fun morons. They are going to price

themselves right out of the market when the crop prices crash, that

is go back to where they should be. By that time, a lot of wheat and

other lower value crops will be overseas, like Brazil and we might

not get it back.

I swear, the people in charge must be deliberately trying to crash

and burn the US.
