Guest guest
My DS (3yo) had a virus and was down with high fever for part of the day for 10 days. Since then, he had been very echolalic - its not functional- he repeats entire chunks from TV shows, and even instructions from teachers, therapists, and me, from months ago. He is typically very verbal and has social difficulties. He would repeat some lines from TV before, but really only when he was stressed (very rarely). Now its a whole lot and its all the time. Could this be from the virus? After the fever, I introduced coconut kefir and it has been great for his stools. Even with the echolalia, he doesn't really seem like he has 'lost' any skills. Any thoughts on what is causing this, and how I can deal with it? I thought yeast- but from his other behaviors and from the bowel movements, it doesn't seem like yeast to me. Thanks for reading, and for your thoughts on this!
Guest guest
In our house there is a nuance between a verbal stim and echoalia. The echoalia seems to us to be yeast related and behavior wise he is more withdrawn. The verbal stims for us seems to be viral in nature and he stays related but acts hyper and stimmy. For viral I play with Oregamax and OLE. He is on OLE normally, but we go on and off Oregamax because it sometimes causes stomach upset, like reflux. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't I increase Vit C. or other anti- oxident. --> Anyone else? I could use more ideas too. Good luck. > > My DS (3yo) had a virus and was down with high fever for part of the > day for 10 days. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply! I hadn't thought of this as a verbal stim - and this makes sense for what's happening here. What doses do you use? And any particular brand of OLE? My DS is 3.5 yo and about 40lbs. Are there any other symptoms for a viral kid? I thought we had more of a problem with yeast and bacteria, and have only just been getting a handle on those. Thanks much again!

We've been on these doses since he turned 3.5. I use different brands of OLE, I use Kirkmans a lot. For OLE we're normally at 460mg-500mg so we go up to 900 or 1000mg. For Oregamax he'll only tolerate 1 capsule a day. For C we go from 500 mg to 1000 or more, as his bowels tolerate. Others do more I think. We're getting ready to give Virustop a good trial. I've been on it for 2 months and feel great. Have you checked www.Danasview.net? She's always got something. Good luck.
