Guest guest
Yes ... I thought of one more question (sorry for the long post previously, too!) I've thought about using xylitol as a sweetener since we need to avoid cane sugar (on his IgG list to avoid). However, it seems that it is made from some byproduct of corn or something -- except I think I understood there is one brand made from hardwoods. Do I need to avoid xylitol if my son has an allergy to corn? And is it TRUE that one brand is made from hardwoods??? I don't believe he was tested for BIRCH on his food allergy test! ) Thanks for any and all help,
Guest guest
Jarrow is made from birch as well as a few other brands. Sometimes it's listed on the package, sometimes it's not so if it's not listed and you aren't sure, call them and ask. One thing to note, many times someone that is sensitive to corn will not be sensitive to xylitol made from corn since it is made from the stalks and not the corn itself. Fibrous parts of plants are what is used to make xylitol. I know xylosweet is made from corn. Usually, the cheaper the xylitol, the more likely it's made from corn. I can tell the difference between xylosweet and jarrow as xylosweet usually gives me heartburn. I would feel safe trying it if my child were not overly corn sensitive but if I knew my child was *super* sensitive, I would stick with birch xylitol. Xylitol can actually be made from *many* different plant sources. The most common is birch and corn, though.CherylYes ... Guest guest
No, don't use xylitol if you need to avoid corn. My son did react negatively to it. And yes, there is a xylitol made from birch. I can't recall the brand but if you google xylitol and birch you should be able to locate it.
