Guest guest
As a renal transplant nurse coordinator who does too much with the financial end, yes. We want to know pap and mammo status. Its basic cancer screening. The reason the nurse is probably saying that is, the transplant center does not order it because the PCP should be doing it on a yearly basis anyway. The pt should be proactive and get their own pap and mammo every year anyway. The nurse is probably requesting it from the PCP .. We will order the pap and mammo as part of the eval if the pt and PCP has not kept up with the yearly screening, which happens ALL the time. . The nurse may be overworked. Are you able to access the electronic medical record or hard copy and get the mammo and pap report yourself? Mammos are over 40 and under with a family history of breast cancer. Paps are for everyone with a uterus and GYN if they have ovaries only. If they have had a total hysterectomy, we ask GYN to clear them once for transplant (meaning no female parts to get cancer) Patti Montemayor, RN CCTC Transplant Coordinator and White Hospital 2401 S. 31st Street Temple, TX 76508 254/724-8448 FAX 254/724-8772 >>> plmmrb@... 2/28/2008 10:44 AM >>> Meredith when I first became a TFC years ago I only got this once or twice and my response was, " Would you prefer to transplant someone with cervical or breast cancer?
