RE: patient age 23

We are evaluating a 23 year old patient for a kidney txp. who has an insufficient work history to qualify for Medicare. Does anyone know the rules re: her receiving coverage through a parent - ie. does she need to document that she has been ill? She has been on dialysis since 10/31/07.

Hi Janet, I think 23 is too old actually,

unless she is a college student. Check the SSA website I am sure the info is

there, if not she should be able to apply for disability anyway and get

approved for SSI, this would give her full Medicaid at least.
