Guest guest
Hi everyone, Just wanted to find out if anyone has any good ideas for handling the issue of Tubes with your autistic child (especially young ones, like my son who will be 2 years old next month). Dylan just had tubes put in last month (he had chronic fluid on his ears and over 15 ear infections since he was born) and cannot get his ears wet which makes bathing a nightmare. I have tried putting in cotton during his baths, but he just pulls it out. I recently tried some expensive ear plugs that were recommended to me from a parent whose child has tubes (but is also older and understands what the earplugs are for and is not autistic!). When I put the earplugs in his ears, he had the most bizarre and terrible tantrum he has ever had (making these gutteral animal noises and completely freaking out). I think he was terribly afraid because he couldn't hear and it scared him. He was tantruming so badly, I couldn't even get the earplugs out of his ears. Anyway, I need to do something and have gone from washing his hair daily to once or twice a week now (which I dread!). Also, we have a pool and he loves the water. I would like to find something I can use for him, but have run out of ideas. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks a million. Guest guest
Hey everybody, I am Amy's husband. When I was just a young lad about 3 or so I had the tubes in my ears as well, and no I wasn't allowed to get them wet. My mother used to give me my baths in the kitchen sink. I couldn't fit in it now but then I could, yes I could. We also had one of those spraying hoses for the sink. It is a smaller more confined area and being Autistic your child might feel as though he has more control of his environment. Just a thought. You might find it easier to wash his hair at counter top level. free out ecdcrider <christycrider@...> wrote: Hi everyone, Just wanted to find out if anyone has any good ideas for handling the issue of Tubes with your autistic child (especially young ones, like my son who will be 2 years old next month).
