Guest guest
Hi all! I'm feeling better and excited about it - maybe the IVIG's working or it's the new antibiotic - whatever, I don't care why, I'll take a day of health! Still more testing for my son, we should have an answer in the next six weeks as to whether he has this CVID stuff or not. If he does, then I will have a whole lot of questions.... , I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Death is difficult for us adults to cope with and hard for children to deal with as well. Something that I've found really helpful for kids who have had to deal with a death are the storybooks about dying - there's one about a cat named barney who dies and how the little boy feels - I think that one is especially good. There are many others out there that you may already have or might find. Some knowledge I have about children dealing with death that might be helpful: children do grieve differently than adults - they generally tend to grieve " in spurts " and so sometimes they will appear to be not affected or not grieving and then, a few minutes later, they will be deeply sad and, then, in another few minutes, they will be happily playing, and then, later, grieving again. This is very healthy and a normal part of grief in children. Also, around the age of six, children begin to have more of a concept of the 'permanence' of death, but still need to ask many many questions about this. Death is painful and a hard abstract concept to grasp, so my experience has been that kids ask many questions to try to get a handle on things. The questions are generally a good way for them to cope with their anxiety - the most important thing that I've heard about dealing with death in children is letting them talk and draw and write... whatever way they can to express their ideas and feelings and giving them an opportunity to 'memorialize' the one who has died as well. Anyway, I hope this is helpful. It may be what you already know or more than you want to know... if you have any specific questions, I might be able to point you to a good resource - Also, I was thrilled to hear about Macey's sinus improvement !
