I strongly recommend taking a coding/billing

class. I took one last year from Cross Country Education. The

instructor was AWESOME. She was from Idaho and also will do one-on-one

consultation (for a fee). The class was worth every penny. She

answered questions just like yours during breaks and had some really good

tools. I can probably dig up her information if you want to go to her

directly. I’ve also taken some basic coding classes through the HMO

– they were free classes – and they were a good basic class.

Re: labs. If you’re doing them

in-house, make sure to put the ordering and referring doctor info on the claim

and your CLIA #. Don’t include any diagnosis codes that don’t

apply to that specific lab. 2009 ICD-9 and CPT coding books are worth

purchasing, as they will have more detail than any online or EMR references.

Good luck!

medicare labs and billing

I'm sure this has been discussed many times over,

but couldn't find my exact answer.

My main question--what code to I put on my lab slip

for a pap done for medicare patient, can I use the well women code v72.31 or

do use the medicare Q0091 code or

something else? for now I'm just going to put both.

I'm new to billing for medicare, looking for good

resources to guide me--any help there would be appreciated. it is most

frustrating.

oh and labs--I can't seem to find a list of what ICD

codes are acceptable and not. what a silly game and waste of our time.

any and all help most appreciated.

Hi ,

Here’s a link to your carrier’s

online learning program: https://www.noridianmedicare.com/learning/course/category.php?id=3

Hopefully you can navigate and find

something there that will help!
