Guest guest
Thanks to those of you who responded so quickly to my request for ideas to help my son with his attachment to various objects/toys. I received 10 or 12 replies with some wonderful advice that our " team " will read and decide what to do for my 4 year old. It seems that obsessive/complusiveness with objects is pretty common among our children! I wanted to share something that I tried this morning before preschool that worked like magic...I drew a social story (which I am not comfortable or experienced with) showing a stick figures and limited words. He was very interested in the drawings, tried reading the words and repeated the phrases (i.e., " Toy in Car " , " Bye-Bye, Mommy " , " Jake Feels Happy " , " Go Home " , " Jake in Car with Toy " ) He looked at the paper while driving to school, and as we rounded the corner, he dropped his object-of-the-day on the floor and went into preschool with a big smile on his face. I never saw anything like it!!! This doesn't solve everything, but it may help with situations like this one. Thank you all again! I will give a progress report in a couple of weeks, since so many of you asked me to.... Gratefully, Londa.
