Guest guest
It cost about $2000 to do ABO/HLA testing. I tell the donors to get together with the family, everyone needs to talk. There are some siblings who would be at risk for hardhip if they were to donate (ie: single parents, those with limited financial resouces that the time off work could impact their family, siblings with no insurance and could face medical bills for medical problems identified during the eval process (cancer is the big thing i think of). Sooo having said all of that, there would be some siblings you could eliminate and some who would be excellent and then go from there. Seriously, the medicine is awesome now adays and you don't need a perfect match. Her dialysis is failing and she needs a kidney transplant asap. She has 11 borthers and sisters and all of them have called in along with some of their spouses to be worked up as donors. The recipient has Medicare as primary and Medicaid as secondary. Does anyone know if there are any rules from Medicare as to how many donors can be worked up at one time??? We are doing the inital cross match on all of them to find out which ones are most compatible but think there will be at least 7 or 8 who wil be a match for her and we need to find out as soon as possible if there are any guidelines as to how many of them we can do at one time. Any input would be greatly appreciated !!!!! Thank you in advance!!! Dana Trujillo Sanford Transplant Sioux Falls, SD --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals?
