Guest guest
Hi Diane, I saw your email about your little guy and his obsession with letters and numbers. My son Dylan (26 months) is the same way and has known the whole alphabet since 22 months old and can count to 30. Anytime he sees a number or letter anywhere, he points it out and screams it!! Wheel of Fortune is his favorite show on TV!! We believe he has Hyperlexia (you can join one of the groups for Hyperlexia too), but I found that most of the parents on that group had a lot of older kids so I couldn't relate to a lot of the issues. We have just used letters and numbers as reinforcements in Dylan's VB program, believe it or now. Most kids reinforcements are videos or candy or something, not my Dylan!! It's Letters and Numbers for him!! He is so memorized. But you can use it to your advantage to learn other things also. He can already spell several words and can sight read several words as well. Definitely take advantage of this, I don't look at it as a negative unless you just can't get him to do anything but that. Check out the www.hyperlexia.com too and it will give you some good information. Feel free to email me privately if you like at christycrider@.... Take care. Christy Crider (Dylan's Mom) 26 months Corona, CA christycrider@... Hi all, Kenny (2 yrs 9 mos) is obsessed with letters. He knows them all and the sounds most of them make. He destroys his books trying to bend them into the shapes of letters. When he goes outside, he finds sticks and bends them into letters. Should I be trying to break this obsession or optimize it? Should I try teaching him to read? How? I'd love some advice. Thanks, Diane
