Guest guest
Ok I guess I am putting myself out there to get blasted-but I just get annoyed with conferences charging more money for professionals to attend conferences. Do you know how difficult it is to get a school district to approve funding for a workshop/conference? Well it is next to impossible. Typically it comes out of our own pockets-and for being " professionals " we do not make the greatest salaries. I respect that parents need access to the information-but teachers, therapists, etc. do also--and although some may not be parents of children with autism-many ARE parents. And even if you are without children-doesn't mean you have extra money to throw around. I suppose you could say you were a parent and get the reduced rate-but we really shouldn't have to. I know I wouldn't be comfortable with that. I know how badly parents want schools and staff to be more educated--but the way the system is set up-really doesn't encourage it. The number of kids out there in need of appropriate interventions and programming is only growing-and if the system doesn't find a way to recruit and educate more professionals--precious time just wastes away-and it is the children who continue to suffer-because the big people can't get it together. Everyone is so worried about WHO is right-when we should be working together to just make it right....Know that I don't mean to offend any parents out there-I respect so much that you are out there advocating for your kids-and I know we wouldn't be as far as we are without you-I also know you all get alot more done than ANY teacher or therapist ever could! __________________________________________________
