It was extremely frustrating to have professionals look at me like I had three heads when I said Nicolas has apraxia. They¹d go on about communication problems in autism and I would say, yes, and he ALSO has apraxia. Finally found a SLP who believed me and saw it in him as well. There is an excellent program that is very behavioral in its approach that I would recommend to anyone with an apraxic child: http://shop.azstarnet.com/cgi-bin/iti.storefront/3c96446501d0be70271da9c5367 2070c/UserTemplate/11 That¹s the link for the book but the whole program uses hierarchies of horns, bubbles and straws. I think they call them ³Talk Tools² on the web site. Child masters one horn (and builds the muscles to make a set of sounds) and then moves to the next horn. Very cool program.
