Guest guest
Hi, I am fairly new to this group. I have just recently starting learning VB (read Sundberg books). I think it is great. My son is very verbal, but he does a lot of repeating. This is his " stim " . I was wondering if anyone out there has dealt with this and what advice they may have. It absolutely drives me crazy. I have tried saying " quiet voice " and it got to the point where I would look at him while he was repeating and he would say " quiet voice " . I thought I was calling to much attention to it, so I am now freezing him when he starts to repeat. I don't think this is going to work. Any help would be great. Also, has anyone out there noticed a pattern to stimming. Tommy can do so well for a while (using words, playing, etc.,) and just when I think we have overcome some of his behaviors, they come right back. This is very frustrating!!! Please help!!!! Guest guest
Have you ever tried redirecting him. With my son, Many a times more you tell him not to stim, it becomes more reinforcing. Stimming is automatic Reinforcement, so we need to have something more reinforcing than his stim. My son did not have much PlaySkills, after we got him interested in softwares, games etc., his stims are much less. My son is not very verbal, but he used to make very harsh noises from his throat that could drive anybody crazy. After attending Dr.Sundberg's conference, I started doing mand training and tacting; and his stims were 95% down. Now, he does spontaneous tacting/Manding and rarely initiates joint attention. Oh, and we have " Stim of the month " . So you are not alone there. -Rucha [ ] verbal stimming Hi, I am fairly new to this group. I have just recently starting learning VB (read Sundberg books).
