Not sure...I thought there was always two also. But I do recall my

cousin saying something about Alaska just requiring their kids get

a second one also. HMMM maybe not every state required. I'm not

sure...something to look into though...

In CA, because my daughter received her MMR ONE DAY before her first

birthday, the school required her to have a second. Is that BS or what? The

way their law reads, " on or after first birthday " meant they were well within

their rights to require a second. I tried to get our doctor (Kaiser) to

waive it, and he refused. d

I wish I had known. This was over two years ago. I was just figuring out

Hunter had issues. I tried to get out of it.

Now we live in TN and I wrote a religious waiver for Hunter's K shots. My

doctor backed me on it too.

no i think the exemption form lasts forever because i will have to get one

because my son had a test and found out the first shot made him immune to

measles and rubella but the mumps didnt work the first time. what i was

talking about is these older kids never got the 2nd mmr that is now required.

It wasnt required when they started school to have 2 mmr shots but most

times the first ones does it i guess they are just making sure. my son will

be going to kindergarden in the fall of 2002 we are holding him back this

year so i wont have to worry about it until then and also when my daughter

goes because she never had an mmr shot and wont if i can help it. i live in

central pa near harrisburg(carlisle)

I live in PA and my son will be starting pre-k in Sept.. We will be

using religious exemption. Are you saying that when he gets to middle

or high school they will insist that he gets boosters? Vicky

Carol,

I live in CA, the schools have a blue card that is the immunization

record for the office, on the back of it, it has an exemption area. I

signed it based on personnal beliefs for my children and have never

been questioned. I did not need a medical exemption. The problem is

if you do know about it, they do not tell you, and the first thing

they tell you is your child is required to have all immunizations

before they enter school,or they cannot enter, WRONG!!. This is not

true at all, and when you say you will be signing the waiver they

look at you with suprise that you even know about it, then they

usually look at each other, and because of poor ingnorance they

probably think we are terrble parents. I personnaly don't care what

they think, but in California, the waiver is there for parents that

have a reason for not immunizing their children, and you do not need

to tell the reason why, unless you feel liked trying to educate, but

truely it goes over most of their heads, so you just sign the waiver,

smile and leave. And for any of you that have problems don't back

down because we have the right choose still in our state. Leah

Leah,

How I wish I had known more then. Yeah, I love it when these admin people

look at me like I am a crappy parent for not getting shots.

There was an article in our local paper here yesterday, or a letter, written

by a mom of a special needs kid who is grown. She says that she thinks

special ed is a big waste of money and these kids will never be able to do

anything anyway, etc....

I am gonna try and find a link to it so yall can send her a response.

(**This is an off topic post, so please email @ MStassel@...**)

I'm wondering if anyone has any information on the 2nd MMR shot and

autistic children. My daughter is 5 and entering kindergarten in the

fall. She needs her shots. She had her first shot at 13 months and

thinking back many times over the past 3 years, I know that she had many

characteristics prior to the shots. Any ideas? Feel free to email me

separately or on the list. Thanks, (mom of ).
