A full day workshop which will include shaping, chaining, prompting,

This is designed to provide tutors, therapists, and parents

procedures in implementing a toileting, feeding and dressing program

for their children with Autism or related disability.

A full day workshop which will include shaping, chaining, prompting,

and task analysis construction (A.B.A.) as you learn to help your

child learn self-help skills.

§ Does your child ever eliminate in the toilet? Or indicate the need

to go to the bathroom? If your answer is negative to the above

following questions, you will be given instructions on how to

implement an intensive toileting program based on the FOXX -AZRIN

toileting procedures.

§ Does your child have difficulties in using utensils. Or shows a

reluctance to trying new foods or textures? Dr. Newman will discuss

procedures in aiding your child with this very important self help

skill by implementing a feeding program.

§ Does your child have the inability to dress him/her self?

Procedures on implementing self dressing will be discussed.

Biographical Sketch

Iwata received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Florida State

University and is currently Research Foundation Professor of

Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Florida, Director of

the Florida Center on Self-Injury, and Co-Director of the University

of Florida Autism Program. He has held faculty appointments at the

s Hopkins University School of Medicine and Western Michigan

University.

His primary areas of interest are applied behavior analysis,

developmental disabilities, functional analysis of severe behavior

disorders, and program evaluation. He has published over 175 articles

and chapters on these topics, and he has received over $3.5 million

in research grants to support that work.

's work has focused on almost every behavioral aspect of

developmental disabilities, including behavioral acquisition (ranging

from basic skills training to community preparation), eating

disorders, self-injurious and aggressive behavior, and staff

management. In addition to conducting research and directing programs

in these areas, he has served as an expert consultant at the

individual, institutional, and state-wide level. Much of 's

research has focused on the functional analysis of severe behavior

disorders. This approach to assessment and treatment is one of the

most significant advancements in behavior analysis over the past 20

years and is now considered the standard in the field for both

clinical research and practice.

is the former chief editor of the Journal of Applied Behavior

Analysis, Chair of the Human Development Study Section of the

National Institutes of Health, President of the Association for

Behavior Analysis, President of the Society for Advancement of

Behavior Analysis, President of Division 33 of the American

Psychological Association, President of the Society for the

Experimental Analysis of Behavior, and President of the Florida

Association for Behavior Analysis. He is a fellow in the American

Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and

the American Association on Mental Retardation.

has received a number of significant awards for his work,

including the Don Hake Award for Contributions to Basic and Applied

Research from the American Psychological Association, the Award for

Distinguished Contributions to Service from the Association for

Behavior Analysis, and the Dillon Award for Excellence in

Research from the American Association in Mental Retardation. In

addition, has published more articles in the Journal of Applied

Behavior Analysis than any other author.

Precision Teaching offers a behavioral method for

measuring/monitoring student behavior and focusing on sound

instructional decisions. Precision Teaching has also researched and

refined effective strategies for promoting rapid learning. Many of

the hallmarks of Precision Teaching fit well into a behavior analytic

framework. For example, focus on frequency or rate of responding,

standard visual displays of data, decision rules for facilitating

student learning, and cultivating fluent behavior. This presentation

will share data and show teachers (anyone teaching a child - parents,

behavior analysts, SLP's etc.) how to add some concepts of Precision

Teaching to a behavior analytic program.

LIMITED TO 20 PARTICIPANTS

YOU MUST HAVE ATTENDED INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP #1 WITH Dr. VINCE

CARBONE Ed.D. BCBA & and have at least some experience teaching

children with autism within an intensive teaching program. (Audio

taping is allowed-please refrain from video taping.)

Bring a Completed ABLLS with a child or team you are working on.

This two-day workshop is designed to provide tutors, therapists, and

parents, that serve as their child's primary therapist, with guided

practice in implementing the methods described in Dr. Carbone's

Workshop #1: Introduction to Verbal Behavior. The participants spend

most of their time practicing the methods of effective instruction

demonstrated in video tape illustrations during the Introductory

Workshop. Each participant receives precise feedback on their

teaching methods. The participants are provided supervised practice

in the following areas:

§ establishing instructional control with an unwilling learner

§ manipulating establishing operations (E0) during teaching

opportunities to maintain learner attention

§ scoring the ABLLS and developing instructional objectives

§ choosing an appropriate response form (sign, vocal, pictures)

§ teaching the echoic repertoire and transitioning from sign language

to vocal verbal behavior

§ manipulating EOs to teach early to advanced manding skills

§ teaching early to advanced receptive, visual performance, motor

imitation, tacting, and intraverbal skills

§ teaching reciprocal conversation skills in advanced learners,

verbal behavior across all settings, and social skills in early and

advanced learners

§ organizing your program materials and data recording methods
